Current League(s): OGL Q3tdm

The tourney that many ss signed up, DoubleTeam 2 - N.A. 2v2 Q3TDM, died soon after it began sadly enough. IMHO its more indicative of where quake3 is going. To the recycle bin? Who knows. Many of us continue to play for fun and fun it is.

There is another tournament trying to revive this dormant gaming scene. Originally the league officials were uncertain as to which mod to use: OSP or PROMODE. Well, they voted and intend to go with PROMODE.

Since many ss have little desire to relearn a new mod, some will compete while others will not. We support our guys desiring to play. I'll post more soon.

[At least we have one active squad at the moment: Editor]

SSCTF recently played Clan SpiceAss for the CAL semi-finals. We got right at it, starting with the first map q3wcp14, Camper Crossings, which started fast and never let down, with us jumping ahead 2-0, then SA jumping back to make it 2-2, where the game went into a flag standoff. After like 3 returns
Strings was finally able to cap, but after a slight rest SA jumped it up to 4-3 them. Another flag standoff occured, and time was running out. Being the hero I am, I tore through 30843 enemies and returned the flag. But, being the llama I am, there was only .5 seconds left, and we didn't get the cap.

Second map was Japan, where we again jumped out early with Archveult giving us a 1-0 boost. Then something happened (I blame qubed) and by the 10 minute mark, SA was up 4-1. Have no fear, we quickly met their assault with back to back caps to make it 4-3. Time was again running low, and once Strings even got their flag into our flag room only to be bambarded and killed. We then went into another one of those flag standoffs, tick tock, SA managed to keep their FC safe for the 30 seconds or so left despite me again tearing through around 38403 enemies. So game 2 was also 4-3 for them. GAH.

These were very fun games, being west, we were of course ping disadvantaged, but who cares, it was a grade-A joyfull experience for all boys and girls, and hopefully XENO and RD will play their semi-final match so we can go on to play the loser of that and maybe even get !!3RD!! place!

I'd thought I'd do a long post summing up the last while. On members: sug was only one to leave due to personal reasons (had real life problems needing attention and couldn't focus on quake), plus we
added moss. I'll go into that in the post...

Well CAL2 season has just come to an end, it was nice to see most of the teams stay in it despite summer, etc. We really developed a strong team and gained much respect throughout the season. We finished with 7 wins, 1 tie, and 0 losses, which was first in our division. It also tied RedDragons for
best record of the season. Early on in the season we picked up Moss aka Razor aka Manchu aka...well the list goes on but the point is he's just some pubber with skillz, but he's a sexyboi and helped us form the lineup we needed. Because of summer we unfortunately only had 4 real active people, so
nearly every match was the killer badboi stud Desmodus on flag D, the 150 pinging ohso-skippy hawaiin-pizza eatin Strings on roam D, the 'i dont have any real skills so im just gonna grapple around' Archveult on O, and the frag-stealin moss would just follow arch around, rackin up dmg so he could
have a higher score than Desmodus, even though he knows des owns him one handed. Anyways we had some good games, its hard being a west coast team playing against a buncha Easties and we're sorta worn out. Archveult has gone inactive but hopefully he will show back up since we still have the
playoffs to play. Speaking of which, we face United first, who we tied in the first week of the season and barely beat in the last week of the season. This should be a very good game and can easily go either way. We'll see what happens...

General News:

All squads reporting in for duty, SIR. Sir, Yes Sir. Everyone seems to have returned with the same enthusiasm and zeal as when summer began. The long three month summer mode is OVER. I hereby declare, we are now in FRAG MODE.

Over the last week, I have been sick as a dog. I caught a bad chest cold from one of my kids. "This too shall pass." The problem is that I am not able to keep my eyes open late at night and hence, I go to bed earlier. SD + NyQuil = ZzZz.

sstdm: (ETG IRC Network in channel #silent_service )

Current League(s): OGL Q3tdm and DoubleTeam 2 - N.A. 2v2 Q3TDM

On Tuesday of this week, Rigor announced the details of the upcoming DoubleTeam 2 - NA 2v2 Q3TDM tournament. The short of it is that they have over 137 teams filling over 3 conferences, East Central and West. What's great is that there is much rumbling as to who will actually win each division and conference. There are many good players from various 4on4 q3tdm clans. Some play with clanmates while others do not. Many are unproven in a 2n2 competition setting. Time will show us their true capabilities.

As of now, here is the format:

Start date is Monday, September 2nd. You can begin playing matches as of this day. Matches will need to be completed no later than Sunday, midnight EST, of the same week (giving you 7 full days to play).

Maps
Each team picks one map. IF both teams happen to want the same map, the higher seeded team will have to choose another. The lower seed team can NOT change their map pick after stating what map they want, and forcing the higher seeded team to re-choose a different map. The same map can NOT be played 2 times in a match. Available maps are...

  • pro-q3dm6
  • ztn3dm1
  • ospdm6

Format
We'll be using a format basically identical to Lan Arena 7. Due to such a large volume of teams and games to be played per week, it should work really great to basically halve the playing number of teams in a reasonable amount of time. After that occurs, the remaining teams will go into a double elimination bracket type of format. Here is a bit more detailed breakdown of how this works...

4 teams to each group
Each team plays every team in its group 1 time
Top 2 teams from each group move on to double elimination bracket
Lower 2 teams from each group are eliminated

The scoring system for this format is as follows...

2 points for a Win (a "Win" is if a team wins both games 1 & 2)
1 point for a Draw (a "Draw" is where each team wins 1 game - no 3rd game is played)
0 points for a Loss (a "Loss" being where a team did not win game 1 or 2)
-2 points for a forfeit (to prevent teams that forfeited to getting to 2nd round)

Rules
All in detail rules and general rules that apply to most Q3TDM leagues are in the rules link on the left side column. I want to address some specific rules / guidelines here though that DoubleTeam2 will be enforcing.

Because of the amount of teams playing per week, referees are NOT required for the first group stage of the tournament. However, you are STILL REQUIRED to let Rigor know what time/day your match has been scheduled for, so if possible, arrangements can be made for GTV and/or TsN shoutcast. Probably the best and most reliable way would be to email me at rigor@speakeasy.net , but you can try msg'ing me on irc in #doubleteam as well.

Because of no ref requirement, its critical that you do a few things once you are on a server. Once you have a server (its gonna be tough these first few weeks cause about 130 20 minute games are going to need to get played - good thing Speakeasy has put a LOT of new Q3 ports up... Speakeasy rocks, period :D ), THE FOLLOWING SERVER SETTING IS REQUIRED...

\callvote respawn 5

I'd also suggest doing the following commands...

\lock (your team to prevent llama's from joining up)
\callvote mutespecs 1
perhaps ref someone... \callvote player# ref

Because of no refs being required, in order to get your points, DEMOS WILL BE REQUIRED. Its very simple... no demo, no points, even if you have screenshots. You have 2 people on your team, one of you can remember to tell the other to start recording a demo. To make this easy, you can just type "cg_autoaction 31" once on the server for your match, and it will automatically record a demo and take a screenshot for you at the end.

For this first week, just please hang onto your demos/screens until I give everyone info exactly how we are going to handle the teams getting them to staff or on the Cache website.

General News:

It has been a while since our last post. Truth is there is lots going on in the REAL WORLD. Many of us are getting our feet back to the ground as we just recently came back from an awesome LAN event, Quakecon 2002. In the end, we had 9 SS members attend and play at quakecon. The members who attended include: saddam, chickenhunter, flopster, src, sirdark, ltrain, dasmick, snagger & macdaddy. A notable SHOUT goes out to Iceweasel whom we also met.

Other members are simply returning from summer mode (vacation). We sit here with mixed feelings on summer. Many are all glad summer is over, while others wish more of it. At the very least, our gaming clan (ctf, tdm, 2n2, and rtcw) will be returning to some level of "normalcy." Routine and nightly appearances with various levels of clan squad practice is up and coming for us all.

ss-chickenhunter and ss-saddam both took a number of digital pictures which I hope to have a URL or post up soon. We are also proud to advise that we recently picked up one newest member for our squad. We are proud to announce kvm joining the slim, yet mature ranks of ss. KVM has been in other central based clans for q3 tdm. I had heard and seen kvm in his old clan, -7. But it really was our rare chance to meet him live at QuakeCon that really demonstrated to us (all ss there) that he has the right attitude and spirit to be a welcomed member. Welcome aboard, ss-kvm.

Of the last three months, my most satisfying were not my trip to London or preparing to move out of Ohio. It was finally being able to move to Houston. Once settled in, I also had the rare opportunity to meet a few ss faces that we've played with on-line for a while. Src and Chickenhunter are a unique dynamic duo. Kvm is all MAN. Saddam remains old, but Mac is older. Flopster is older than he looks. Ltrain is smarter than he looks, if only he could be more humble when he ownz me 1on1 =).. Dasmick is young but filled with enthusiasm. Snagger is all GQ. I am surprised KillCreek didn't put a move on him (maybe she did and I don't know about it). Last but not least, Elixir was a pleasant surprise. I hope our continued friendships last and we continue having fun.

Bottom line, we are baaaaaaaaaaaack.

Keep it up and have fun. Similar to ssrtcw, I hope to also begin receiving routine updates from this squad to post here.

General News:

It has been over a month since the last news post. The reasons for the delay are far and varied including:

  • My son has been hogging my pc
  • Our HOST provider's upload connection has been hosed
  • No news to post, really
  • or...I have been out of the country watching tennis and haven't had the chance to post anything

Yeah, I like that last one.

Truth be told, it has been well over 7 weeks since most of the gaming community went into summer mode. Now there are a few stragglers out there that will claim that they have been busier than "ants at a picnic" since they began their summer. Fact is, it has been slow overall. Most clans are inactive for competition while others sit in front of their pc's instead of going outside and getting some much needed fresh air..or even taking the neighbor's daughter out on a date. Either or, it leads to the same conclusion. Its been slow, period.

One great piece of news is that Quakecon 2002 is about to begin their LAN event on August 15 - 18, 2002 outside Dallas, Texas. As of this moment,

"Q: When does the QuakeCon party begin? A: in 3wks 2days 10hrs 59mins 19secs"

Nothing really has changed that much so we have still have about the same clanmates planning to attend:

ssrtcw played their 1st round OGL rtcw pre-qualifier for Quakecon 2002. They played team SuperGlo tonight and ssrtcw won 3 - 0. According to ss-kokopelli, this is the low down:

[@ss-kokopelli] the first round we won in 4 mins, they couldn't beat. then we held them for the full 10 and capped in 3. the last round we capped in 2:04 or something close to that
[@ss-kokopelli] needless to say, they couldn't beat it
[@ss-kokopelli] so we won 3-0
[@ss-kokopelli] on of their guys dropped out after the quick cap too
[@ss-kokopelli] but the rest played it out
[@ss-kokopelli] that's the match in a nutshell =)

We now await the winner from [mM]metaMule vs. Team Affliction (rtcw). The odds on favorite to win is Team Afflication. If so, they are to be a tough squad. We hope to muster all our skillz and game plan to win vs this CAL-Invite team. Good Luck.

Current League(s): AIL Q3tdm league and OGL Q3tdm

Tonight, we played our week 4, AIL Q3tdm league match vs 519. They were good games. 519 got to play their map 1st, then ours, then the map of the week was ospdm5. All three games were great. 519 fielded a mix of players including: Neo519, Gestahl519, Destrukt519, Airdave519, Prophecy519, and Gator519. We actually hung neck and neck with them for game 1. It was close until they owned the last few quad and BS to build a nice lead for their win. For game 2, 519 sat Gestahl519 and played Airdave519 that showed to be a good move. By making that substitution and having Gestahl519 coach, solidified a good lead. Game 3 was all ours. We managed to out play them and use every quad to our advantage, even if it was to die with it.

  • G1 - 519 wins - 92 - 110 (18 frag difference) - map q3dm14
  • G2 - 519 wins - 76 - 120 (44 frag difference) - map q3dm14
  • G3 - ss wins - 100 - 87 (13 frag difference) - map ospdm5

Net, ss gives up a frag differential of -49.

You can find our current standing in AIL here.

They have already posted the OGL rtcw ladder. We aren't too pleased with the seedings as it appears OGL gave many Euro clans top dog seeds. In order to advance and actually compete at QCon, a team must win 2 games. Part of the problem is there are only two on line games.

The OGL schedules can be found here. Round one for ssrtcw appears easy enough. We are set to play our match on Wednesday, June 19, @ 09:00 pm on Ice SW (mp_ice). Round two will be tough and no time has been set for it yet.

For week 4 of AIL Q3tdm league, we are scheduled to play 519 before the end of this week. As of now, it appears we will be playing our match on Sunday night. I once again double-decker, triple-jelly bean dare them to play their starters.

Earlier this week for OGL Q3tdm , we played and beat team Spec3ies-tdm for the best 2/3 games. sstdm won pretty decisively in games 2 and 3. What was amazing to see in game 1 and 3 were the near perfect rails shots by Spec3ies. We were impressed. We managed to hold them off and win. Our strategy beat their "impressive" like aim.

Last night, our against team ssrtcw was beaten by a much improved team, Wolfmörder on map_sub. From the statistics, one would not easily figure them as a top CAL RTCW MAIN team. However, last night they managed to show us and remind us that good practice and solid play wins games. GGs Wolfmörder They now sit with a 4-2 record in the Atlantic Conference Gamma Division. ssrtcw drops a game and falls to the #2 slot in the Atlantic Conference Omega Division with a 5-2 record. ggs to all.

Round 1 1 1
Round 2 0 2

Final 1 3

Recap of this season in CAL:

Of all the teams ssrtcw played, our only losses were to GAT (0-3) and WM (3-1). Clearly, by the scores in which we lost to GAT, they are a dominating team. WM was not that clear, but close. Team WSR was the only other team we played that gave us a run for our money by us winning (3-2). Good season to all.

In week 3 of AIL Q3tdm league, we are scheduled to play clan #frequency (Hz). We don't know yet the maps to be played except for Map #3 which is to be q3dm14. As of now, the match has yet to be scheduled. This should be a good match for both teams. Go ss!

Even Muiy was working this week. He managed to write up a piece on AIL. He seems to compliment us, then take it back, sorta. He tends to do that to most middle level clans. As far as "unofficial rankings" are concerned, we really don't care. This isn't high school. ss is not in this for popularity, of that you can be sure. I am sure its "neato" to be ranked etc, but since we really do not have the need to be in any sort of organized gaming schedule, its really not an issue. Most clans that seek sponsorship or what not, care for or need that image. Since most of ss are mature adults, we are proudly and successfully self funded, rarely is it an issue to fly to any event or feel the need to be in a big competition. Have we been? Yes - in Frag4 (Sept. 2000) we competed in Dallas and ended in the top 32 clans for q3tdm.

Muiy said at Shackes.com:

Silent Service over Inevitable Demise 2-1 Power3D, still one of the best tdm'ers on the east coast, has once again decided against joining an established clan and immediately getting a starting spot, and has instead restarted his own team [id]. He's recruited players like Lube (former DigA), geoff (former ss, id), azn (former id), and rizzy (dunno much about him) to make a team that's active and decent. That ss- beat them 2-1 here in a close match says something about the improvement that ss- is making, and in week3 Silent Service has a big match with Frequency where they have a decent shot of "moving up" in the unofficial central rankings.

Last night, ssrtcw beat, GNS, 3 - 0 on map mp_village for STA in Alpha division. Currently, we are ranked 4th with a 7 - 3 division record. Way to go ssrtcw!!!

This week in CAL RTCW Main League, we are scheduled to play vs. Recreational Malice on map_assault. As I said before,

"RM is no push over clan with a 3 - 2 record but they also have been beaten by GAT 3 - 0 , and WSR also beat RM 3 - 0. I am not entirely sure what to make of them at this time. We should not take them for granted nonetheless.

What is also significant about all of these matches to date is that as of today, we are 1 of 4 teams with a 4-1 record. We are in the Atlantic Conference in the Omega Division along with GAT (a very strong division). If we intend to beat out GAT for this division, we need to finish strong losing minimal if any rounds. Over the next two weeks, GAT plays Diga (6/6) on map_assault and xtreme Killers (6/13) on map_sub.Of the two clans, Diga has a 2-3 record, whereas xtreme Killers lead their division 3-2. ssrtcw plays RM next week, and Wolfmörder week of 6/13 on map_sub.Wolfmörder seems to be the tougher clan statistically with a 2-2 record in the Atlantic Conference Gamma Division."

Over at Cache web site, there was a summary written edging our ssrtcw with a win this week. In summary, the author, AD|Dingdong, said,:

"This match has the potential of being very good, but it just depends on the teams and how much they prepare for it. I say Silent Service 3-1."

I agree. We should be strong enough and better experienced to take this match. Good Luck.

Last night, we were successful in preparing for our OGL Q3tdm vs Team La Merc Q3. We mutually agreed to play on SpeakEasy DFW q3tdm OSP server. The connections were equal for both teams. Unfortunately, as we began map #1, q3dm14 (tmp), Team La Merc Q3 was ill prepared for our level of play. By the 10 min mark, the score was 64 to -1, ss leading. At that point, one of their players timed and they asked for a forfeit. We did not manage to finish the match.

As it stands now, we are waiting to hear who we play next week in the AIL Q3tdm league.

Tonight, ssrtcw beat their opponent, Warp Sanity Red (WSR) on map mp_base. Final score was 3 - 2, ss wins. ggs WSR (web site). This match meant a lot to our ssrtcw brothers. Both teams had held a 3 - 1 record, while we both also have lost to GAT 3 - 0. Both clans were similarly matched. RM is no push over clan with a 3 - 2 record but they also have been beaten by GAT 3 - 0 , and WSR also beat RM 3 - 0. I am not entirely sure what to make of them at this time. Additional news has it that "summer mode" is beginning to show its affects on the squad. No doubt most students are now out of school for the summer. Many end up traveling, others lose their leet connections. However, we are also plagued with not having many players to begin with. We are actively seeking good SOLID, respectable, honorable, no bs people to join our fine ranks. Please stop in to #silent_service on the ETG IRC network and speak to one of our players. Current League(s): AIL Q3tdm league and OGL Q3tdm

Tonight, our sstdm squad played its 2nd week in the AIL Q3tdm league. I am proud of the effort and time our team has put into practices and routine strategy discussions trying to master each of the OSP new maps in Q3.

Clan Demise [iD] is captained by Power3D. They currently have Power3D, azn, rizzy, resile, lube, and geoff on their roster. Map #1 was chosen by [id] : q3dm7. This map is a classic battle of controlling the Red Armor area. Quad and mega were key area positions as many fights ensued at each location upon their spawning. In the end ss won q3dm7. Map #2 was chosen by ss : ospdm6. This map was all about trying to control Red Armor while also using Quad to your team's advantage. For the most part, [id] was left to run and camp the YA/Rail area. A few battles were had in and around Megahealth. No doubt [id] used Rail Gun like surgeons use surgical equipment. They were tough. They won map #2. Map #3 was the classic dm12. This is a huge map with both Quad and Battle Suit to try to manage, if not, control. SS lead for the better part of the game. [Id] managed to bring it close to within 20 frags but never really managed to cause ss any serious threat. The recap is as follows:

  • G1 - ss wins - 109 - 100 (9 frag difference) - map dm7
  • G2 - id wins - 98 - 77 (21 frag difference) - map ospdm6
  • G3 - ss wins - 88 - 64 (24 frag difference) - map dm12

Net, ss wins frag score by +12.

gee gee [id], good luck with the rest of the #AIL tournament.

Tomorrow night we have our OGL Q3tdm vs Team La Merc Q3. We are to play them on Wednesday @ 11:00 pm EDT. The maps to be played are Grim Dungeons (q3dm14), Temple of Retribution (q3dm7), Realm of Steel Rats (cpm4)

Well, ssctf started it's first week of CAL cctf threewave season 2 yesterday. We played clan SLUT. As usual with west vs east matches, an even server could not be found. We had the ping disadvantage. However, that's not how we lost. The match ended us losing 6 - 10.

Round one was a defensive masterpiece. We scored the only cap at the 19:20 mark. ssctf wins 1 - 0

Round two saw us come out with a 3 to 0 lead around the 7:45 min mark. This is where it went bad. SLUT then sent 3 O and only left 1 on Defense. In the confusion, they went on a capping run and ended up winning 6 to 4.

Round three (overtime) we adjusted, but not fast enough. They took the early 2 to 0 cap lead. Then we got one back. Around the 10 min mark, they got in 2 more caps and took the game 4 to 1.

Good Games team SLUT.

Pre-season week two will find us playing eXtreamly cash poor.

Our ssrtcw squad played their CAL RTCW Main League match last night. They competed vs Clan LSD (Large Scale Destruction, #clan_lsd @ etg) on map mp_ice. SS won 3 - 0 in two rounds. This is great as ss moves to a 3 - 1 record, losing only to GAT. This also places us currently for a tie for 2nd place in the Omega division of the Atlantic Conference.

Our next CAL match for week May 30, 2002 will be vs. Warp Sanity Red (WSR) on map mp_base. Learn more about WSR at their web site. They too currently hold a 3 - 1 record while also losing to GAT 3 - 0. Similar matched clans. One of us will remain standing 4 - 1 after next week. Who will it be? Good luck fellas.

Current League(s): AIL Q3tdm league and OGL Q3tdm

We enjoyed playing Clan 519 starters last nite for our 1st AIL Q3tdm league match. At first, it appeared as 519 would use their bench for the match, then 3 out of 4 players showed up (Gryp, Budah, and Seb) as their starting line up according to Gryp, while including bench players, such as wheat519, neo519, and pvp519. GG fellas. I will say that we are pleasantly surprised with our game. Sure, it may have been a grim view at winning 2 - 1 or even 3 - 0 for ss, but we held our own. 519 chose cpm4 as their 1st map, ss chose ospdm6, and the 3rd map was auto default to q3dm7(boring, most overplayed map - pull out the marshmallows fellas.)

  • G1 - 121 - 72 (49 frag difference) - map cpm4
  • G2 - 142 - 93 (49 frag difference) - map ospdm6
  • G3 - 155 - 62 (93 frag difference) - map q3dm7

Our team played very strong last nght . We showed them that, although we did not win, we earned respect. I have seen 519 recently on countless maps/matches, take apart a team on q3tdm maps. Ya know, now that I think of it, I hope to see 519 @ Quakecon 2002. It would be fun scrimmaging them on LAN. Hmm.. What a thought. We patiently wait to see who we match with next.

We received a challenge on OGL Q3tdm. Team La Merc Q3 has asked for a match. I have never heard of them. That is no problem as we are an equal opportunity fragging clan. We are scheduled to play them on Wednesday, 05-29-2002 @ 11:00 pm EDT. The maps to be played are Grim Dungeons (q3dm14), Temple of Retribution (q3dm7), Realm of Steel Rats (cpm4).

Summer time is almost here and here is who is affected in ssrtcw. Dasmick has moved to cali for the summer to finish up his senior project for Nasa, yes, NASA, and Neo has been afk because of a 56k connection. We look forward to getting them back in the fall once school starts up again.

The games against [B]Bloodshed for STA were tough. The match was played on mp_sub and ended with a score of 3-1, ss wins. All rounds were very close however and we won the last round with :03 left on the clock. Great games Bloodshed.

Still no official word about the CAL RTCW Main League match this week, and the schedules for the following week are still not posted. I do know however the match is to be played on mp_base, which unfortunately we haven't played as a clan since the last season.

We also had a quick meeting Monday night with dasmick dialing in from his car on his way to cali. We talked about a few things, the two main subjects were; recruiting and joining a one life to live ladder.

Addendum:

It appears that CAL has removed Clan Noir and replaced them with Clan LSD (Large Scale Destruction, #clan_lsd @ etg) for the week May 23, 2002. I am not familiar with the rules, but that's the change CAL has made and the match is set.

Our pre-season AIL match began with a bang. Our game night was filled with a little drama. We were all set and ready to roll 1 hour before match time, when we spoke to one Magi member and he said they did not have 4 players. I appreciate the good effort as he finally managed to get 4-Magi members to show and play their match. The last thing this AIL league needs are forfeited matches.

CHUS has a writing up on the same thing below. I would temper the results of our match with a little caution. Although Magi played, it was a match played completely lopsided. ss went on to win with a total frag difference of:

539 to 64

The individual maps and scores were:

Map: q3dm7 <> 191 to 18 <> ss wins

Map: cpm4 <> 187 to 14 <> ss wins

Map: cpm4 <> 161 to 14 <> ss wins

What does this mean for our pre-season start? Not too much. We are now seeded and are at the top of the CENTRAL DIVISION! W00t. We will enjoy that seeding for the time being. No biggie. We are set to play our 1st regular season AIL game vs 519. This is gonna be fun!

Hi all,

Just a little news update on the cctf front. The cal cctf league starts today! The pre-season schedule has been released. You can view the league here.

We've been scrimming hard latly and have done pretty well. Our first cal match is against team SLUT and will be played within the week.

One other bit of news, threewave version 1.5 will be released today, so go get it!

On a team wide note: I will be getting my q3 servers (Black Ice) up and running by the weekend. These are centrally located servers that will host osp as well as threewave. Since it's summer time, we have basically a full OC-3 to ourselfs. Thanks to Iceweasel for helping me with the servers. The server address will be - quake3.ittc.ku.edu.

We picked up another win for STA. This time it was against clan [xeno] where we won 3-0 on mp_ice. I'm really starting to like this map. It plays a lot like village, once the object is taken it has to be run across the map back to the spawn point. Timing on defense is very critical, especially when you have to get some guys positioned correctly to return the captured objective. I haven't seen any demos other then my own but it seemed like all players had their moments of making big plays to help us get this win. ss-bv captured the objective twice and on the last round did it in somewhere around three and a half minutes which took a lot of pressure of us when we had to switch to defense.

Our next game is Thursday May 16 against GAT on mp_village. GAT defeated us on ICE a couple weeks ago for STA but if we have anything to say about it that's not gonna happen this week. GAT is a great team, we scrimmaged them a lot when preparing for the cal playoffs and I enjoy the challenge they give us in scrims/matches but right now GAT's record for cal is 2-0, our record for cal is 2-0, and we are sitting tied on top of our division. Come Friday morning, one of us is going to be in second place in the Atlantic Omega division of this league.

General: <=> Summer Mode Officially Starts - Use Caution <=>

Every year for the last 4 years we enter the time of year where students wrap up school, enter summer break, go to work, spend more time outside vs at the pc, or have increased outdoor activities with family, friends, or lovemates.

The reason I post this is to remind everyone that this happens every year. And every year, there are a select few people within and outside SS that EXPECT for everyone to be around 24/7 as they usually are during other times of the year.

We do not go inactive, we go into "SUMMER MODE."

So please, if you are a clan member or just a visitor to our channel, we are around. We may just not be around as much as we usually are because its time to enjoy the warm weather and have fun outside.

When does this end? It varies. Most of the time, everything returns to normal in August sometime. The big difference this year is that several ss members are making plans to attend QuakeCon 2002 in Texas on Aug. 15-18, 2002.

SS: Squad Leaders, make sure you do not over commit to tournaments or other events if we do not HAVE the players around to play. Summer tends to get ppl away from their PCs.

CAL preseason starts May 18th!! Finally! Not much news in the way of news. Got a new member, desmodus has joined our ranks please welcome him to ss ctf. Merton has left our ranks to pursue something other than q3 unfortunately. You will be missed. Not by me but by ltrain who (I heard and I'm not going to speculate) enjoyed sending nekkid gay porno pics to you as well as receiving them. =) Anyway, thanks for the fun and commitment you gave us and goodluck with your future endeavors. You'll always be welcomed here with us.

OGL match with [xeno] was pretty well what I expected. We got spanked. Oh well we will survive. GG's [xeno]. I'm not sure were locking too much for cs matchups at the moment as we would like to get our heads focused on CAL CCTF. Threewave 1.5 will also be released soon so watch for it if your interested. As always, if your interested in a scrim then please drop by the irc channel #silent_service and make a plea to one of the cctf crew. That is all.

In Cal RTCW Main League, we managed to fight off a good group of players in Diga. SS over Diga 3-0. GG guys. Matches ending Thursday, May 9, 2002, Map: mp_beach round one ss takes it 2-0 , whereas in round two, ss takes it 1-0. Overall, 3-0 win for ssrtcw. Our next match is against a 2- team, GAT. This will be for bragging rights in the Atlantic Omega division of this league.

We played GAT on mp_ice Monday night for the STA league and GAT walked a way with a 3-0 win. GAT's a pretty good up and coming team and we needed to play solid last night to take this win but that didn't happen. I'd say the biggest factor was probably lack of practice on our part, but hopefully we'll be able to turn that around soon. We have a game coming up with GAT again on May 16 on mp_village. This has been become one of our more comfortable maps, with are only loss on it being to Paradigm Shift in last seasons cal playoffs.

Last Thursday we where supposed to play [xeno] but they forfeited. Really not much I can say about that game. GL to [xeno] in the future. Organizing a 7 on 7 is not easy.

Our next match is for CAL-Main against DIGA on mp_beach this Thursday. A couple weeks ago we took DIGA down 3-0 in a CAL preseason game on mp_ice and we'll try our best to do that again.

Monday night saw ssrtcw snag a 3-0 win over [HP] #clanhp @ irc.enterthegame. [HP] showed a lot of skill with some surprise attacks we didn't expect, but ultimately we were able to pull it out. This was the first game since our preseason beating handed to us by cF, for ss-dasmick and ss-kokopelli ggs, good to have you back and out of school!

Looks like our new recruit ss-neo will need to be inactive for awhile until he gets his connection problems fixed. He is on a 56k line, and a bad 56k line at that. We all cant wait for him to get back.

Our next CAL-Main match is against [xeno] on mp_sub. We have yet to see a win on sub, we have tied once v lag, and lost to krieg in BoB. We are looking forward to the test of [xeno].

Well, tonight was an interesting one. We had an ogl CTF capture strike match. The match against Exodus was a complete disaster. Basically, it was west vs. east, no neutral server could be found. We agreed to play on two separate servers. Game one was on their server, where we of course had the major ping disadvantage. We fought through it and lost game one 11 - 9. When game two started on our server after less then 90 seconds in, they realized they were going to get owned. They began being really gay
(pummels, name calling, etc). Then it just got worse. With out being to graphic, it was decided that their behavior was enough for a forfeit and probably enough to get them kicked off ogl. It's up to the ogl admins now.

As far as the match went, game one found us short handed, and yours truly was not on his comfortable spot on the bench, but was instead in the game. I believe I had 6 points at the end, and that was a gift, as I cleaned up the flag after everyone else owned (but, I got a cap, baby!). If it hadn't been for the extreme rudeness, we would have played game three on their server, with Arch in instead of me - I'm fairly confident we would have won, even with the ping disadvantage.

Now on the some truly sad news. ss-merton has decided to leave us. I think the current state of ctf (inactive-Ness across all teams as well as no central servers with east and west on same ladder) led to his decision. I think Merton will be moving on to rtcw, and perhaps, we'll see him again, with an ss tag. Merton, you are always welcome here.

On a brighter note, we are hoping that cctf cal2 starts up soon and look forward to competing on that level.

Phew, alot going on in the recent 2 weeks that I have not been able to write a post. Yet another new recruit to join the ranks of ss ctf division. Please all welcome zenmachine! Zen is back from a little bit of rest from Q3 and by the looks of it he's glad to be back. Tonight we defeated dR for a second time on the OGL CCTF ladder. GG's DR!

This upcoming Friday night we take on clan exodus for the OGL CS ladder. With any luck we'll be prepared enough to give them a good run for their money. We have been taking our time learning the maps in CCTF mode and not in CS so this should be fun =) CAL 2 should start up soon.

With all 3 tourney's running it should be lot's of action and fun. We have a new server courtesy of yours truly. We will be using it for practices and scrims as well as the odd match or 2. It is located on the Blacktongue server so all of ss ctf ping great to it.

Wish us luck! That is all...

CAL has changed it's league style for RTCW. Before there was the invite league and main league, now there is invite, main, and open. Invite is pretty much best of the best, Main is best of the good, and open is unknown but will probably bring up some new up and coming clans. Main is still an invite league but it is not the main focus on cal rtcw. Realistically our chances we're not that good at doing well in CAL Invite so rather then bore teams with ownage victories we dropped down to the main league. Hopefully, with a little hard work and dedication we will be able to compete with the big dogs next season.

Here are the divisions for main*

East Gamma
:/
CCCP
kfc
LEG
Saint
xK

East Omega
DigA
GAT
rm
ss
WS Red
xeno

West Gamma
cM
DOG
FH
phx2
pR
wSw

West Omega
AD
AR
NARF
NyX
X-D

The CAL main league is no joke. We will be playing against some pretty damn good RTCW teams. You probably know diga, kfc, xeno, and rm from q3, We just won our first match(3-0) against diga on mp_ice in what was a really fun game. We've really had trouble finding things that work well on that map in scrims and it took a great team effort running a new strat on defense. Much thanks to the clans we practiced against and the clans that uploaded demos to cached for giving us some ideas. Diga also seemed like a cool team and I look forward to playing them in the future.

We played our first STA game since preseason that did not result in a forfeit. We where previously inactive on the ladder due to receiving 2 straight forfeit wins and one forfeit loss which was misreported. We faced pqc on mp_village and received a 3-0 win in our first match since being eliminated in last seasons cal playoffs. We are in what is called the Alpha division of this league which I guess is some sort of an invite ladder. Should be fun and I hope we can achieve a shot at the title within a month or two.

Justice did a great job at cleaning up this ladder and it seems to be running a lot smoother now.

There are also rumors of a second Battle on the Beach tournament from the ogl. This was really fun last time and I'm sure we'll field a team for this.

I would also like to congratulate snagger, frost, and neo on playing extremely well in our games this week. Our lineup is getting pretty strong and with a few more players we maybe able to get intras going in the future.

* The teams listed in cal are subject to change and with the way things have been going they will in the next 24 hours

Hi There! Well I've been insane writing for the last week so while I was on a roll I figured I might as well take a crack at putting up some news for the TDM squad.

Firstly we have been doing some heavy organization and regimentation to try and get our house in order. While our run in Resurrection 2 was primarily for fun (for us that's always how it is :) ), IMHO I think we could have played better in some of the matchups. Consistency has been our bugaboo but we are working to address that and get a stable starting team going for scrims and matches. We've already done some work to improve things and it has shown some pay off with our OGL win over Unknown (UnKn*) to protect our 8th rung ladder position. UnKn had given us a scare in an early OGL match and we were anxious to play them again. Throughout UnKn showed good sportsmanship. GGs UnKn!

OGL: SS over UnKn

Map Winner Loser Winner Score Loser Score Demo
Temple of Retribution Silent Service UnKn [Q3A] 150 50 None
The Camping Grounds Silent Service UnKn [Q3A] 130 70 None

Aside from the odd OGL match and the upcoming AIL we were looking forward to playing in KIT2 when it was announced, and quickly put in our request for an invite. We however found ourselves at the bottom of the list when invites were handed out and failed to be invited to the Central Division :(. We did receive an offer to play for an alternate position in the Eastern Division but the perjorative feeling was that we would not match up well against East teams on East servers, and that in doing so should somehow a position open up in the Central Division we would be committed already to an Eastern Division position. To avoid this issue we decided to forfiet our position as an Eastern Division alternate and focus on the upcoming AIL. Mind you we would have, and would still, jump at the chance to play in the Central Division, which we feel we can match up favorably with, but for now we will be scrimming and practicing regular in preparation for AIL and OGL matches. Overall I cannot say that we did anything to earn a spot in KIT2 however its a shame there aren't more central teams otherwise we would have easily earned an invite. As is we were more of an odd man out than anything.

Its been slow on news posting but we have been busy in ssRtCW. First off, we have brought in two new players, welcome ss-cffrost and ss-neo7 to the party. They are both new to the clan scene. Welcome.

We played our first CAL-I match against cF and lost. CF> ss, 3-0. GGS. They are a prime example of the quality teams in the CAL-I league. We have a lot to learn.

With our new recruits we had the need for another league so we get everyone playing time. We looked at the various leagues around wolf and decided to re-join STA. It has matured into a great league since we left because of 3 consecutive forfeits by our opponents. They now punish teams for forfeiting and have a better scoring system based on stopwatch mode.

Finally I am working on getting status webpages for our servers, I want to keep people informed on the current map rotations, player load etc. Provide links to custom maps, get stats......you get the point. Look for those pages soon.

In other news, it looks like CAL season 2 is a go. 21 teams have signed up for the league season 2 (1 more than what was asked) and now we are just awaiting word. Also, we have signed up for the OGL CS league. Our first match is on Friday against W@R. Since the cctf ladder is pretty dead at the moment opening ourselves up to the OGL CS ladder was a nice change. I signed us up for season 2 of the CAL 3wave division. They are unsure if they will have enough support to make a season 2 so they are asking all who are interested to sign up. If they get 20 teams signed up then they will seriously consider opening a season 2. If anyone reading this know's of teams that would like to sign up please direct them to the CAL League. I know we've been lacking in the news department so I wrote a little something up.

***********************************************
Since our exit from the cal playoffs we have been scrimming, recruiting, re-organizing our chain of command, and working on strats. ss-8.3 and ss-maggot have resigned from leadership and ss-noc is back as the leader of the rtcw squad.

We've probably been playing like 6 to 7 scrims a week(maybe more, I'm not sure) and have been playing in a lot of pick ups in #rtcwpickups.

In the past week or so we have scrimmed with

Darkside
Stickmen
Xil
phx
no
VBG 0r VGB I forget

I'm pretty sure we played a couple other clans that I can't come up with the names of right now.

Some time in our near future we will be starting the cal-invitational league and that is pretty much what we are trying to prepare for now.

We've picked up snagger. Some of you may know him from ufea. I believe he plans on making the trip to quake con with us and he's been helping us improve as a team. He gave us a pretty cool team bind script.

ss-Donka also did a great job on modifying a q3 timer script to make it work for Wolfenstein.

For RTCW community news Darkside defeated dr and has won the battle of the beach head tournament, and there are now two teams left for the cal finals. Thursday nite Darkside will be facing off against phx for the cal season 1 champion title. This should be a good game and you can probably catch it live on TSN. PHX surprised a lot of people for the second week in a row with a big 4-2 win over -p on sw_beach.

Darkside will also be playing abuse for the STA title tonite and you can catch that live on TSN.

Check out www.battlewolfenstein.com if you haven't already. They have some really cool post game interviews and I think noc is doing some work for their site.

Sorry we haven't had much news in the last week or two, and we may not have much more in the week or two coming up. Don't let this lead you to believe we are going inactive or anything like that. We are definitely busy, just don't have any official matches to report on.

RES2: week 5 - SNB over SS

First and foremost I would like to congratulate SNB for a very well played game. Their time spent practicing certainly paid off.

As for team ss, don't get discouraged! We did quite well. I am surely not giving up on this team. We lost gg time to move on =). I just finished watching the demos (ref pov) and I have to say that we definitely gave them a fight =). Of course the only problem is level control. Another problem which I am seeing is the line up situation. Of course we can't prevent random things from happening in our lives but I think it would be easier for the team if we exactly know who will play 3 days ahead.

We are falling into this pattern that everytime match time comes we seem to be a bit unorganized in terms of who will play or who will not. This can't be first come first serve basis folks. If you want to play then you will need to commit to at least some practices and you will have to be there when match time comes. Again it is hard to determine what will happen whether it be connection issues or other things. I really think that if we plan ahead we can at least avoid some confusions and we will still have our minds set.

I am proud of you guys and thank you for playing and putting up a fight in those matches.

I just want to say something to chickenhunter =). GG ch!! hehe. Seriously after watching those two demos you are better than what you think. Give yourself some credit you did very well in there. I'm sure it will get better the more we play together. You definitely have my vote to be a starter =). Good luck you guys no big loss let's try to avoid the same mistakes. Many thanks to src, ch, claw, donka and pureluck (coach).

Not sure who we will play next but I expect a better turn out this time =).

May lag bless you all

-Silent Service will go up against SNB this week for Res2. Match date still pending so check the Resurrection 2 page for details.

-Silent Service totally silent =). Nice weather and business trips has caused some members to go inactive this week. Saddam and sirdark away on business trip (yeah right!) this week. I am sure they are out there somewhere playing golf =). More players are also staying "afk" in our channel. Not to worry we will still have a strong line up to go up against snb.

-Pureluck just acquired a very nice computer P4 1.7 ghz with dual monitor setup. I already fear pureluck and his incredible rail aim. Now he adds 100+ fps to rail aim so what happens now? Should I say bot aim? hehe. Now I will not be able to score 1 frag off him =).

-After many hours of troubleshooting his comp. Saddam has finally fixed the problem of his Q3 stuttering. The culprit was using unnecessary console commands. Like I always said use the settings that you are familiar with and will work best with your comp/video card etc. I am glad that he finally fixed the problem. Now that choppiness will no longer handicap Saddam look out!!

-Of course I have to mention ss-claw (a.k.a rico suave) as I forgot to mention him last time in my column =). Claw is playing again for the 23947239047th time. Not sure how long he will stay active but from watching him play (when he did play). I still see that he still has the skills. Let's see how long he will stay playing this time.

Elixir gives two thumbs up to Seismovision demoplayer!!.

After using demoshow creator for a long time. Seismovision demoplayer has convinced me to switch to this demo player utility. It has all the features of demoshow creator and more. What I like is the ability to enable thirdperson and restart demo on the fly. It also has a built in graphic quality configs so that you can just choose if you want high quality or low quality when watching a demo (no need to edit your config anymore). Of course Seismovision will still let you use your own config by selecting "Ownconfig" settings (which I prefer =) ). I suggest you check out their site and download it at Fileplanet.

Well this is it for now. More news will come of course when there's more activity in ss. Of course any kind of activity will be posted by me not just Q3 subject but also the drama hehe j/k. Be good, have fun and enjoy the spring break!.

OGL CCTF Ladder:

Tonight was our first win on the OGL ladder since we joined it about 3 weeks ago. Thanks for the gg's dR it was a pleasure to have the setup for servers and the match go so smoothly. We were originally scheduled to play on Wednesday night (the 20th) but due to our team mates not showing up (me included) Ltrain and Archveult took leadership and rescheduled for tonight. Thanks to both of them we were able to play the game and not forfeit it.

In other news, we are still actively recruiting on an invite basis only. I know that there really isn't much in the way of west coast clans and activity but hopefully with any luck there will be as soon as CAL season 2 get's underway. Once again, thanks to Arch and Ltrain for doing what I should of done and rescheduled the match. That shows alot of initiative on their part and that little bit shows to me that there still are people interested in team ssctf.

Trying to stay up to date with TDM, according to DiamondX our next challenge should be xeno. They unfortunately have been inactive in Res2 for the last 3 games so I think we get a forfeit win which basically gives us a bye week to prepare for the next challenge.

Just to get some info from Res2 our teammate, ss-elixir, from sstdm is currently winning the week 3 Res2 MVP just above gestahl from 519 you can vote at the CHUS site to give him a little edge it taking the MVP ;)

currently:

gestahl (519 vs. cccp) 23.97 % (58)
elixir (ss vs. t5) 28.93 % (70)
exodus (nova vs. xbn) 5.79 % (14)

READ ALL ABOUT IT!!

Hi all it's been a while since I last updated. There's not much going on other than the activities in resurrection 2 which is going good by the way. Well here are a few tidbits that I can come up with =).

-QST Tournament
As all of you already know I have signed up for this tourney to get some 1 on 1 experience but found out later I didn't have the time =(. Busy busy is all I can say =). The free time that I have I would rather use to just jump in the server and play. I'm sure the tourney is fun and all but sometimes emailing your opponents to set a date or deciding on a server etc. can be a hassle so I decided not to compete in it. This way I don't just end up with so many forfeits when something something comes up and can't play on time =).

-Resurrection 2
I want to congratulate DigA for a very well played game. It took a while to decide on a server but what else is new right? =). Levels played on were osp6 and osp5. There was no need for a third level as DigA won 2 straight games. Good games DigA.

So far Resurrection 2 has been great (at least in my opinion). The Res2 website is very nice! Lots of information and frequent updates specially on demos and stats. I want to say thanks to those guys who are giving their time to organize a tournament for us quakers out there. Without tourneys like this I'm sure a lot of clans wouldn't be here. So hats off to them.

-Quakecon 2002
I'm going! End of story hehe. It will be fun to play on lan and to be able to meet some great people in this clan.

-Have you been elixired today?
Hmmm let's see now this is the part where I will talk about clan ss and what I have been seeing for the past week.

I would have to mention how recruiting is being handled. I say we need to be more strict and not just recruit base on how many times people pages us hehe. Sure someone can page us and act all nice and show that they can be responsible enough. It's always hard to determine if someone wanting to join is really what they claim to be. In my opinion it's really random that we will come across someone who will be willing. If we do great! but most of the time it always ends up being the same thing over and over again. Mr. Player pages us with signs of interest. Mr. Player acts all nice and show us what we are looking for (being a good sport, maturity, dedication). Mr. Player then plays in a couple of games ends up losing and turns to be Mr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde hehe. Mr. Player now goes on what I call quakedown syndrome =).

Quakedown syndrome is when I see a player who suddenly becomes very moody specially when losing a game. He also becomes depressed and loses interest in Q3 all of a sudden. There are a lot of these cases going on in the Q3 community in one way or another.

What I will tell you guys is this. You cannot avoid losing! You will be beaten! There's always someone who is or who will be better than you. Losing is a part of the game. If you think changing your nick name to hide or thinking if you go to a different clan will make it all better then you are wrong. That is just temporary relief my friend hehe. Wake up and smell the coffee. YOU WILL LOSE AGAIN SOMETIME!

Such a person can even be as bad as blaming the clan. Such a person with this syndrome (hehe) will hardly see that he is at fault. It will always be the players around him. So what happens? This player usually changes nick or joins a clan that will make him feel he's refreshed and into playing again. In time similar situation will happen again.

So what's the point to all of this? Nothing exactly! hehe. Which is why I don't understand why people act in such manner. This is a game folks it is really nothing. It's a past time! Something to have fun with =). Now for those people that does it for money then I would understand but for the 80 percent of the Q3 community it is in fact only a game =).

Now back to Recruiting like I said it's all really all random. That new recruit can be a benefit to the clan or just another child to baby sitt. Personally I would rather play than spend time with the drama =). We have a lot of people in ss and there's definitely skill there. Why don't we try looking at all the players that have shown dedication to ss rather than waste time looking for another child to baby sitt. I see so many players in ss with great potential. ss-Hollywood, ss-Ltrain (oh forgot he's ctf now booooooo!), ss-Mac-daddy, ss-Noc ( I really wish he would stick to quake) just to mention a few. Skill is learned and I'm sure these guys can even get better. We already know how dedicated they are so I believe that they deserve more recognition. To me it is not really worth looking as people will message us to join anyway =). Only there you can filter out the good from the bad but even then you can't tell until they are actually in and find out how they really are.

Recruiting to fill the starters position when they can't make it for an important match is not a smart move I think. Everybody knows that when there's a new recruit time has to be spent and get familiar with them on how they play etc. I would rather spend time with other members and see how their playing styles will benefit matches.

Last but not least. I understand that we have things going on outside of Quake but for those selected to start please try to make it. If not we need to know 1 day ahead for us to be able to compensate and redo our roster. We can't just get an answer that you can't play 30 mins before the match. I know it's hard to put time aside but please do your best. We would appreciate it thanks!.

Okay enough babbling =). I'm sure there will be people who will read this and agree or disagree but like I said before. This is my viewpoint =). Very hard not to get frustrated with this game but once you learn to relax and have fun with it trust me it will be so much better =).

-MORE FRAMERATE? I WANT MORE!

Now that I have wasted your time reading my column I feel that I should post something some of you may find useful. Not sure if you know this already but for some that can use it here you go.

These commands should give you a boost in framerate (like ss-noc needs more hehe). For us guys with a low end system it should help. Hey anything that will add more fps should be a good thing right? =).

Do a timedemo first using /demo four. Do it at least about 3 times and remember your highest framerate. Now add these commands in your autoexec or you can even type them while in console.

s_mixahead "0.1" (Default is 0.2) - This gave me about 10 fps more so now I have a steady 75fps woohoo! Results can vary of course on your computer but it's worth a shot. Some of my friends gained about 20+fps.

s_doppler "0" (Default 1) Turns off that weird wooshing sound when a projectile from rl or plasma passes near you. Believe it or not for some reason that affects fps.

Try it and see if it helps you can always put it back to defaults if you like =).

Thank you for reading and may lag bless you all =)

We have officially begun our hunt for strategy. With our upcoming match against dR next week, we will have to try different things on different maps. DR challenged us through OGL which we signed up for late last month. We are hoping that CAL season 2 will start soon with the 3wave division so we can get some more match time in. With any luck this will happen in a short while and we can get in some decent practice.

We are always on the lookout for some scrims. This is hard though because it seems we are the only active west coast clan out there. If anyone knows of any active west coast clans please let us know. I'm sure that scrimmin' together will only help the both of us out. That is all.

The OGL CCTF Ladder can be seen here.

Tonight, sstdm played their 4-th match for the RES2 tourney. Our foe was Diga. They won over ss 2-0. GGs. Game one was not close on map (OSPdm6). The 2nd map (OSPdm5) pretty close up until the 8-10 min mark. Diga played well. GGs.

ssrtcw lost in the CAL playoffs Sunday to -P-, a squad which has taught us lessons in the past. They had superior strat and great aim which together = ownage. He he, we were just glad to not get spawn raped and blow the crypt each round. GL to Paradigm Shift (#paradigm irc.gamesnet.com) in the rest of the CAL playoffs, we will see you in the Invite next season.

Everyone played pretty well as far as I can tell except myself, special notice goes to ss-petey though for grabbing the forward spawn flag during a spawn rape attempt which allowed us to advance and blow the crypt. GGS everyone.

CAL RTCW RECORD found here.

This brings us to the offseason. I think we have all decided to take it easy and prepare for the CAL Invite season by dialing in tighter strats and recruiting a choice few players. So if you know of any good people send them our way.

On Thursday, March 7, 2002, sstdm played another match for the RES2 tourney. In our 3rd match, our foe was track 5 (t5 aka /////). ss won 2-0. GGs. The game was close on the 1st map (pro-q3dm6), while the 2nd map (OSPdm5) we controlled it after about the 4-5 min mark.

[Silent Service]
-OVER-
Track 5
89 - 77 [pro-q3dm6] =-= 87 - 56 [ospdm5]

As reported on ShackES:

... Euphoria, SwishaHouse and Silent Service all proved my predictions wrong, as they won important games between 1-1 clans. Euphoria had a hell of war with Rorikon, the alias clan, but ended up coming out on top. Old u4ea players like succubus and stasis were in the lineup for this match, as was 1v1 star rommel. Not sure what happened to Track 5, but I have to say I'm surprised as hell that ss won semi-easily over them. Well done Silent Service. Here are the Game 1 Part 2 stats.

Game 2 was played on OSPdm5. This game was tight the first 4-5 minutes. ss broke away and lead the rest of the way. ss won this game 87 - 56. The Entire SS team was the MVP of this game for team ss played well as a unit on this map. Here are the Game 2 stats...

Over at CHUS:

...The other surprise result was Track 5 losing to Silent Service. Both teams are pretty good but I felt going into the game Track 5 had the better teamwork and aim. Silent Service proved that theory wrong though. Silent Service is looking pretty good after this victory and it moves them up to 2-1. They should be one of the contenders for a final playoff spot bar any dramatic events. Track 5 on the other hand I have a feeling is pretty disappointed now after 2 straight losses to kfc and now ss, they should be a playoff contender as well but only if no internal problems arise...

I also find this new tid bit interesting on map selections so far in RES2:

Map stats after 3 weeks!
Posted on Mar. 11 2002,09:59 by DiamondX

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Its that time of the week again, here are the map stats so far thanks to Methos:

Res Map | # of games | Percent
pro-q3dm6 34 33.3%
ospdm5 17 16.7%
ospdm6 16 15.7%
q3dm14 15 14.7%
q3dm12 12 11.8%
cpm4 8 7.8%

Both of the new maps for the league seem to be quite popular. After a lot of questioning the inclusion these two maps in the rotation I think most people now like having these two great maps.

Week 4 of RES2 has us as follows: Digital Annhilation vs Silent Service. Who said this was hard? =)

What I do like is that we are expected to lose 2-0. Good. At least we don't have to worry about expectations. =) =)

Lastly, Weaponx has decided to quit competitive q3 tdm gaming. That's what he said. Good luck man.

Well.. it's been a busy week for ss-ltrain and I so we are a little slack on the news side of it. I will try harder to get out more updates as time permits.

Over the past week we played our match against RD for the OGL CCTF ladder. This was our first OGL tournament experience and I must admit it was a real eye opener. We didn't start off too bad for about the first five minutes... we actually seemed to look like we knew what we were doing. That fell short however as RD pulled off a 9 - 0 win on Bitter dungeons and a 14 - 0 win on Finnegan's Revenge.

I am proud for the great work the cctf team has put in so far. I'm also grateful for the great sportsmanship you've all displayed during our beatdowns. This will not go on for long I can assure you. Since we are a newly formed team and are not sure of each other's playing styles as of late, we have no where to go but to improve. Bringing in new members all the time is hard as well. Especially when your just starting out and your trying to get your strategy's down with the teammates you have. Speaking of new teammates I would like to welcome Danman and Merton to the CCTF team. That is all.

Hello everybody!

Well the ssctf squad has been established for almost 3 weeks now. Unfortunately, the ogl cctf ladder is nearly dead (about par for the course). We've received one forfeit win (yeah!). The leader of that ogl ladder is team Red Dragons(RD).

We (ss-Qub3d!) accidentally challenged them before we realized that they just recently beat [xeno] cctf in the CAL league about a week ago. Well, the good news is that they will probably show up ;-) It will be great practice for us and although I don't expect a win, I think we will hang tough. Our match
is scheduled for March 5th.

Other then ogl being dead, we are doing great. We've been playing many pickups and trying to get as many scrimz in as we can. (Well, the others have, I've been extremely busy with work. But the good news is my mobo should get back from the shop some time this week!)

We are currently recruiting on an invite basis. If you are interested, join us in #silent_service.

Thanks!

The ssrtcw season started winding down this week. Our withdrawal from STA earlier in the season (after being forfeited on three times in a row) and our defeat at the hands of Kreig in the Battle on the Beachhead last week has left us with only the CAL playoffs to concentrate on. Nevertheless, ssrtcw is still going stronger than ever, defeating Allied Rangers 5-1 in tonight’s CAL playoffs match. ggs [AR].

8) Eternal

The ssrtcw roster also underwent some changes this week, as Ss-diseased and Ss-bush|viper decided to step down from our lineup to pursue other ventures. It’s a big loss for us: Diseased and Bush were great guys and were instrumental in getting us where we are today. However, we wish them the best of luck wherever they end up. ggs dis and bv, we’ll miss you.

The team is undaunted, and we’re only getting tighter. Tonight’s CAL victory is a testament to that, and we look forward to next week’s match up. Stay tuned!

You may remember that.

ssrtcw also played their BOB OGL match Vs kreig and lost 3-1. I am very proud of the ssrtcw squad, not because of their gaming results as much as it is their attitude. They grouped together not too long ago and managed to go farther and play as a true team better than anyone expected. Moreover, they did it with class and style. Way to show the ss spirit of professionalism and sportsmanship.

Hello everybody!

Today I'm pleased to announce the formation of Silent Service's newest division-- CTF. Silent Service started out playing Capture the Flag way back in 1996. Since then, ss has played and competed in many different games and mods. Currently, ss is active in q3tdm, q3ra3, rtcw and now, q3 Classic ctf.

Realizing that I'll never own like ss-elixir ;-), I've decided to take the road that many other mediocre college basketball players, among other sports, have gone-- and coach.

With ss-qub3d's help, we've put together a nice team. Founding members of ss's q3cctf squad are: ss-qub3d, ss-Archveult, ss-Quiv, ss-Strings & ss-Sugah. In addition, we have pleasure of drawing from SS's tdm and ra3 pool in ss-iceolate and ss-Tarok.

The ctf squad hopes to follow in the footsteps of the rtcw team - work hard and surprise some people. Great work ssrtcw. It's a unique and great privilege to be able to draw from SS's experience and resources rather then starting a new team from scratch. Congrats to ss-sirdark for building and keeping (see Jan. 31st, 2002 news) this team together.

We plan to take it slow at first-- practice, scrim, enter an ogl bracket, have lots of fun and go from there.

For those diehard q3 players that won't even think about anything other then tdm, I suggest you download the threewave mod, and just give it a try, it's tons of fun!

We are still actively recruiting, so join us in #silent_service on etg if you are interested.

Thanks!

Been a good week for ssrtcw, we won both of our matches which puts us in good positions in both leagues.

CAL RTCW: We are now alone in 2nd place in the Central/Gamma division for CAL with a match next week against our friends, Allied Rangers, who are tied for 2nd place in their division. If you remember, [AR] beat us the first week in CAL, so this match means just a little bit more. Heh heh. GL [AR].

BOB OGL: We also advanced to the "sweet 16" in BoB. This was a huge win for us because of all the attention the match received. As sirdark said, we were called everything BUT the silent service. We were voted as the underdogs but came through with a win last round with 0:01 left on the clock. Solid Line proved to be a difficult opponent setting quick times stealing the gold as Allies. GFG's sl.

I want to say congrats to ss-petey for having a great match last night, he came through with a nab of the flag that bought as a lot of time, we tease him a lot, but its all in good fun. Also worth noting is ss-maggot with the return of the gold with 0:01 seconds left. Everyone had a great game last night, but these are the ones that stand out to me right now.

I am really proud of our improvement in the last couple of weeks. Our teamwork and strat is getting better and better and the addition of ss-donka into the lineup has proved to be beneficial. We have a long way to go to beat the elite though. We have scrimmed against dT, D|S, TIP, -A- and -P-, let me just say that we have a long way to go to beat these guys.

Well, here we go again. Big kudos (sarcasm) to them so-called reporters that pride themselves in getting the news right, right? Last night's shoutcast of ssrtcw vs Solid Line in BOB OGL RTCW Tournament was a great event. I take nothing away from the broadcaster. He did a fine job. But let's do a complete and thorough job here fellas. Check this out TSN web site:

I was once sadden by the fact that that clan's name was mis-quoted. YES I know there are mega number of clans competing in rtcw events, but come on people, I am only asking that you do the basics of your job and get the clan names right! I don't even know if other clans have been miss spelled. Is this just happening to ssrtcw? Anyways GG again. We are now 4 - 0 on misspelled names.

This is preliminary news for ssrtcw mainly. I am anxiously awaiting for news from our very own ss-8dot3, ss-maggot, and others. As soon as I receive it, I will post it.

ssrtcw: (ETG IRC Network in channel #ssrtcw )

BOB OGL: Our ssrtcw squad played and won their highly anticipated BOB OGL match tonight. The current standings are here. The official score page is here. Much talk was posted around some of the news sites such as:

XSreality.com's Thorian's predictions

XSreality.com's Pepsi's comment where they miscalled our clan name like this... "Solid Line should have an easy time with Fallen Angles in CAL this week and will have to beat Silent Assault in BoB play if they want to remain on the list."

Even Games.speakeasy.net did a number on us calling our squad "Secret Service" saying "I'm choosing Solid-Line because I believe they've fought and defeated tougher opponents than Secret Service. Worth noting, however, is that I cannot find validation for this claim anywhere on either of their websites, so I'm making a total memory call here."

Regardless it was all good fun. Our squad should and is commended for exceeding their own expectations and winning matches as pros. Way to play it fellas. Stay focus and keep your feet on the ground. Don't let that ego trip get you to far up that ladder. The higher you climb it, the longer the fall down.

One of the first web sites doing its work and posting some news on the SS WIN OVER SOLID LINE is www.cache.net. Read about it here.

Lastly to make sure everyone knows who we are, I'll post this friendly reminder:

QST-Quake Senior Tour:
Cache's QST League is about to begin starting Feb 18th. The rules are set, the player roster is full and closed. Our very own ss-elixir is set to compete. We expect him to do well. We were also informed today that Marion Webster is currently reviewing the inclusion of a new word as a verb, "elixired." More on this later.

Details are found in the QST Forum.Or if you want to see the actual QST news page, click here. It also displays player brackets.

General News:

Muiy from Shackes.com reported earlier tonight that TheCPL has announced its platform for its Summer Tournament:

CPL Announces Summer Event [06:03 pm] - Matt Huey

The details for the CPL Summer Event were released tonight, as Valve moves even further into the CPL spotlight and id slouches farther into the background.

The primary info: the tournament game will be Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, the semi-sequel to the original CS. The purse is $100,000 and the event will happen July 13-17 in Dallas, Texas. From what I've heard, CS-CZ will be different than the original in terms of new weapons and multiplayer maps, but not gameplay. New maps will be used at the CPL tournament.

Although I am not particularly fond of CS or its mods, it was another kick in the groin for Quakers everywhere. What I did find even more interesting was that Angel Munoz was already prepared for the "heat" he was expecting to take given TheCPL's choice game for its event. He had this to say at TheCPL Forums:

For days I have prepared the CPL team for the unavoidable backlash that would come from Quake-based game fans with the announcement of our Summer Championship event, and its focus on Valve Software games.
Of course, the expected accusations have already commenced, claiming bias, mocking the CPL staff and calling the communities surrounding our selected games "newbies."

I am obviously not surprised by this reaction and if you are unhappy with our choice, please accept my apologies. This entire criticism is very reminiscent of the accusations we endured for years when our focus was on id Software games.

Allow me the courtesy of reminding the community that we've held twelve tournaments with Quake games and only three with Counter-Strike, and at one of those three the sponsor, Razer, defaulted on payments.

The CPL has nothing against the Quake community or id Software, and claims to the contrary are simply unfounded.

However, the unprecedented support we do receive from Valve and Gearbox is a mark of distinction that is unmatched by any other developer to date.

A close working relationship between the CPL and a developer is a must at this stage of the sport, to help create built-in systems that will lead to better spectator tools and tournament ready software.

We hope that the entire gaming community will benefit from these new tools that should bring multiplayer gaming to the next level.

Once again, I feel it is necessary to remind the community that the CPL does not receive compensation from developers or publishers, and that we select our games without coercion or hidden agendas.

For those of you that are happy about our choices, thank you. For the rest, there is still the Winter Championship Event.

Cheers,

Our intentions for the coming months were to compete regularly in three events:

It was just reported that CQL is closing down, even before it actually begins. Here is the story as reported on CHUS:

Well, the Challenge Quake League that was suppose to be starting soon has decide not to start the league. Here is the official announcement from their homepage:

"As many of you know, the CQL Q3TDM league was started by Spike of 3g (#3g on ETG) designed to be mostly a league for any caliber clan to play in, and something for the Q3 community to watch and follow after CAL Q3TDM had ended. I had recently come aboard to help him out, and try to get the league's organization cleaned up and moving along smoother. I don't believe when Spike came up with his idea to start a new Q3 league, he was aware that Resurrection 2 was going to be starting this soon. It is obviously an established league in the community already, and we hope it goes off without a hitch. It's hard enough as to get clans to schedule matches and get in enough play time each week for 1 league, but 2 would be a bit over the top. Considering the Resurrection league will obviously be more of a focus to the clans and community, rather than try to keep the CQL Q3TDM league afloat in the shadows of everyone's focus, we have decided, along with most of the clan's feelings, to shelf the CQL Q3TDM league for now. We really feel this is in the best of interest for everyone. We would like to thank the clans that signed up and showed interests in the league."

Well, from a personal perspective I was sad to hear that the league was started when it was first announced by spike because he is local and a good guy but I could just see that coming.

For now we will remain focused on OGL and RES2.

The RtCW division had another undefeated week, playing two matches but unfortunately taking our STA match by forfeit. We kicked off our competitive week with a 4-2 victory in CAL over Do It Yourself. Village was a rough map for us, but we played an excellent defensive game and were able to hold out for the win.

Our second round BoB match up was against Large Scale Destruction. This match marked ss-donka’s first foray into RtCW competition, and he came up huge for us by single-handedly defending the gate area. We also had a chance to showcase our teamplay abilities by altering our strategies several times throughout the match. This proved especially successful toward the end of the match, when we were able to complete our objective on Assault in a scant 1:40. At the end of the day, we walked away with a 4-0 shutout.

ss-rtcw is continuing to raise the bar week after week. We are truly a different (and vastly better) team than we were when we started out, and we don’t plan on slowing down any time soon. GGs LSD, DiY, and of course all of the SS guys that make it happen.

IGL 2 on 2 Tourney:
After forfeiting twice I have decided to take ss out of the IGL 2 on 2 tourney. I realized that we don't have time for that right now as a lot of our members are usually afk on match dates. Not that big of a deal as I signed us up in this league with the intention of getting some practice games =). Good luck to the rest of the participating teams!

QST-Quake Senior Tour:
Cache's QST League will be starting on Feb 18th. This should be fun since they will be putting the new osp maps. I know that a lot of ss are over 30 [(Ed. Lies, you are as old as you feel (sd)] not sure why I am the only signed up =). Don't be afraid to sign up it will be a lot of fun =). You can find more details about QST here.

Gamefixx Q3tourney:
Seems like there's another big tourney coming up in July 2002 in Dallas, Texas. I have spoken to ss-sirdark about this and I think that ss should get together for this one in Dallas. We will wait and find out more if there will be a team tournament. SS will definitely consider if there's a team deathmatch division as per ss-sirdark.

Here's interview with Matt Vining courtesy of www.shackes.com:

"GameFixx was created by CompUSA in a way to give back to the gaming community what gamers want. We are taking a very dedicated approach to providing a better gaming experience for the community. By offering a club membership that costs $49.99 a year, we allow members to participate in any tournament we have for a year, a 10% discount on most items in our stores, an IGN subscription, and many more benefits. The current tournaments we offer include weekly events that tour the nation with prizes totaling over $1000 per week. These tourneys feature Counter-strike as well a console gaming. Currently we only have PS2 gaming, but will be adding GameCube and XBox gaming to the mix in the next few weeks. Look for Super Smash Bros. Melee tourneys and Halo tourneys coming very soon to our stores. We will also be having approximately 6 Online competitions featuring Starcraft Brood War, Dark Age of Camelot, and one other title yet to be announced, These events have prizes in excess of $20,000 per event with at least the top 100 participants winning money. Lastly we will be having our National competitions that I mentioned above. We plan to give away around $80,000+ per national event. All in all, our goal is to give in the gaming community a fun way to compete in different ways and at different levels."

The Full interview can be found here.

Silent Service Active As Ever: With some clans dying in the Q3 community it's good to see that ss is still alive and strong =). Lots of members are starting to play again including ss-claw, ss-mac-daddy and ss-noc. ss-noc has been playing a lot of RTCW but I am glad to see him playing Q3 tdm again. From the teamgames I have played with him recently it seems like he still has the touch =). If he starts playing Q3 more I would definitely like to see him in the starting lineup.

I have yet to see if when & we will start scrimmaging every night or at least get a couple. Sure it's fun playing intra but I think this should only be if we can't find a scrimmage =). Whatever happened to "scrim nightly" as I saw posted in channel topic? Not sure if all of you agree but I'd rather play other teams once in a while.

Have you been elixired today?:
Well this is it for now folks just keep playing and have fun. Like I said before "Frustration is your enemy". Don't be like those people out there who gets so frustrated look where they are now. They are clanless hehe. By the way ss-sirdark, very nice write up on January 31, 2002.

General: On line gaming clans, what type is yours?

There have been two on line gaming clans (Q3 tdm) recently that have folded and closed its doors. They are Clan Ichorvile and Clan Insane Pain. You can read the |4| story1 & |4| story 2 and ip`story at these links.

For those of us around a while, we have all seen our share of on line gaming clans and players that argue that the sole reason for a gaming clan is to win. A clan, they say, is to be made of players that are the best in a specific game. I have differed from that opinion and I will always differ. A clan to me is a virtual place where you are to experience two things: to win and to have fun. The point of debate has been which of the two points comes first?

I offer to you that a gaming clan established solely for winning will be not only short lived, but it will be no fun. Sure you can argue that winning is fun, therefore it will always be fun (so long as you continue winning). The problem comes when the winning stops or the winning isn't as frequent. The players are usually not mature enough to weather the storm of rebuilding, regrouping, or reestablishing its winning record. Why? Because the basic rule will always apply. There will always be someone, some clan, more hungry or more skillful to beat you, eventually. Clan members usually end up leaving or become licensed "clan hoppers" and ultimately display their true colors. Therefore, if the gaming is solely founded on "must win," the fun stops when the winning stops.

On the other hand, if a clan founded first on fun and then winning, it will generally last the test of time. The argument here is that people will not stay with a gaming clan that doesn't win. Therefore, it will not last. That isn't generally true. It all depends on how the gaming clan is founded. If its true and dedicated core is to have fun, then it will endure. A clan that has fun and loses will find ways to win enough to last the test of time and its losses along the way.

So where does that lead us? It comes down to what type of clan a player wants to join. There is that rare exception of a clan that has both a lasting winning record and lasting fun. And if it does have both, it will not have it forever.

As a result, being in this gaming clan I call "ss" aka SilentService AKA a true mature clan...I can think of one word:

Redemption!

Main Entry: re·demp·tion
Pronunciation: ri-'dem(p)-sh&n
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English redempcioun, from Middle French redemption, from Latin redemption-, redemptio, from redimere to redeem
Date: 14th century
: the act, process, or an instance of redeeming

The RtCW division continued to gain momentum this week with a respectable showing in three league matches.

Our first regular season STA match ended in a victory by forfeit on the part of Forum Battle Group. [FBG] was down three guys and they were decent enough to play a few rounds with us anyway. We look forward to playing FBG with a full team sometime soon. GG’s FBG.

Tuesday’s CAL match saw some more intense action against ]LAG[. The ss wolf server crashed at the last minute, but the people from FBG were nice enough to let us borrow theirs at the last minute for the match. Not only that, but LadyLuck of planetwolfenstein.com forums was kind enough to spec and keep score for us throughout the entire match. The end of the match saw our second tie of the season, making our record 1-1-2.

OGL’s Battle of the Beachhead tourney started this week, and ssrtcw was victorious in our opening match against Napalm Killers. Tonight was also ss-JiggleMeat and ss-petey’s competitive debut. Jiggle is a beach veteran who put in a great game for us and was instrumental in securing the win. Petey has gotten his airstrikes under control for the most part <g> and we hope to see both of them become regulars in competition. Also congrats to ss-Bush|Viper who came up with a score of 100 defending the war room. GG’s [NK].

Our roster is closed at this point, and we’re focusing very closely on building a top-tier RtCW team with our current members. Be on the lookout for more updates in weeks to come.

IGL 2 on 2 League news: ss has been challenge by mcowned in the IGL 2 on 2 League. Time schedule and maps are as follows:

Monday 1/28/02 - 11:00 pm EST - pro-dm6, ospdm1 and dm7 for the tie breaker.

(Alternate day Tuesday 1/29/02 if we need to reschedule)

We still haven't decided who will play for this match but let me know if you are available and we will set the 2 on 2 team before the match.

ss-ltrain has been added to the roster and I am looking for 2 more members to add. This way we can alternate if needed and this is also a way to find more games for ss members. Let me know if you are interested.

Player status (tdm division):
ss-noc's connection seems to be even better now. Seems like he is getting 30-40 pings even lower on some servers. After comcast upgrading their service this is what he had to say:

[14:32] <ss-noc> i love comcast now
[14:32] <ss-noc> woot

By the looks of this seems like noc will be playing more than ever. Good for you noc!!

ss-pureluck still having problems with his connection. I heard it has something to do with the router. Don't you just hate it when someone has 30 ping and not you hehe.

Quake Senior League:

- Congrats to ss-cal for being appointed co-leader. Show us the way cal! Show us the ways of the FORCE

- Congrats to ss-sirdark and ss-saddam for putting together a very organized meeting.

Attempting to take over a channel in ETG IRC and causing havoc is unacceptable. Good riddance.

ssrtcw: (ETG IRC Network in channel #ssrtcw ) ss-maggot and ss-8dot3 are also working diligently securing a solid roster for rtcw. They have picked up a previous member of ss in q3tdm. He went inactive and left to focus on school. He is ss-wasp & welcome to the squad.

STA Tourney, ssrtcw lost against -P- 0-8.

Thanks to both teams for being goodsports and a blast to play with.

Recruitment: We are currently not actively recruiting any more players at this time except for the few who we are in talks with currently.

     - ss-8Dot3 (#ssrtcw)

ss meeting: Even though our meeting last night was centered around Q3TDM activities, we did address and establish an addition to The Silent Service leadership. This change does involve co-leadership as it relates to the clan entirely.

Prior to a few weeks ago, ss-sB had been co-leading our clan along with ss-saddam and me. As he retired from our clan, ss-saddam and I realized we needed to fill the void of a 3rd co-leader. I am proud to report that we will continue having three heads, per se, and have ss-cal & ss-saddam as co-leaders and me as leader in managing our clan.

With ss-cal, he will have direct impact on the vision and the direction this clan will take on in all squads and divisions in the coming future. We are not changing game squad leaders at all, if anything, it allows the squad leaders ( ssrtcw, ssra3 and any future squads) additional contact points for our members.

There is much I can say about ss-cal, but I won't. I will say I am proud to have his witty sense of judgment and balanced thinking that comes in running a solid group like ours. He is not a "yes" man. That was important as we need that checks and balance in our midst. Thank you for taking on this additional responsibility ss-cal.

I appreciate all the ss team members who were able to attend last night's Q3 TDM meeting. Other topics discussed in our meeting are private and for the sole use of and for current active q3tdm ss members.

ssra3: n/a (ETG IRC Network in channel #ssra3 ) Presently, our ssra3 squad is building its base of players. ss-iceolate is recruiting in #ssra3. If you think you got what it takes to join an active and highly competitive squad, stop in and speak to him. I will remind you that skill alone will not get you in as a serious consideration for the squad. If you don't meet the bill, let's not waste each other's time. Immature whiners need not apply.

IGL: SS forfeits to FITH2 in IGL 2 on 2 tdm.Silent Service has yet to play their first match on IGL 2 on 2 League. It was a very busy weekend for -ss- (at least for the IGL team). We had to forfeit to FITH2 since nobody was able to play. ss-cal had some family event to go to while ss-saddam enjoyed dinner with family =). Not that big of a deal guys we'll play next match =).

It was probably bad timing or bad scheduling on my part but I want to apologize to FITH2 for any inconvenience. So now -ss- awaits to be challenged =).

What is going on with ss? Inquiring minds want to know.

Just a lot of scrims and games and waiting for the new tourneys to start Resurrection2 and CQL. Other than that -ss- just trying to get as much games as possible to get some teamplay strategy down.

Played a few intra teamgames last night with ss-cal, ss-donka and ss-saddam pretty much dominating the games. That was a lot of fun guys thanks!

IMPORTANT: There will be a Silent Service TDM Clan meeting tonight at 9pm CST so please be there!

**Second Place – a Game Boy Advance hand-held.

**Third Place – A collection of Activision’s award-winning PC titles.

Silent Service should probably be renamed presently to Active Service. We have been busy this past week in more ways that one. I see great opportunities for our clan to grow outside of its historic Q3 TDM roots.

ssrtcw: As most of you know, within the last month ss started its RTCW squad begun by ss-Noccy. We are found on the ETG IRC Network in channel #ssrtcw. It is now being co-squad lead by ss-8DOT and ss-maggot. ss-Noccy is core to that group. Given his current busy life outside of IRC, I hope he hangs tough and is able to remain active in ssrtcw. ssra3: We are proud to announce today that Ss has begun an Q3Rocket Arena 3 squad (RA3) under the squad leadership of ss-Iceolate. We are found on the ETG IRC Network in channel #ssra3. ss-Iceolate has been with us since the middle of 2000 and remains a loyal member of this clan. He is certainly worthy of Q3 tdm skills that comes 2nd only to his good attitude in gaming. I appreciate the responsibility ss-Iceolate upon himself to make this work. As he will soon learn, its not a "coast" job. I am sure he will manage it well.

It is encouraging to see the growth and interest level within and outside our clan for new squads. ss-Saddam and I continue to carry much responsibility in making sure that our two principle recruiting criteria are not sacrificed solely for gaming skill. Going on more than 5 years experience, we know what works and what hurts. We are also not afraid to make drastic changes or deletions to the roster if it is needed for the better good of the clan. We have said this time and time again, and at the risk of over emphasizing this I will repeat it: "We recruit and allow people to ss based on attitude/respect and then skill."If you want to join a clan strictly to be elite and or to own, then we are not for you or you for us."

With change comes risk. With risk comes failure or reward. We are not afraid to fall down, since we do a great job of getting right back up. Just wipe the dust from your feet and move on.

Silent Service not so silent =).

For those of you are still in the dark, Silent Service just signed up to a new league called "Challenge Quake League" Check it out for more info. From the looks of it, this will be another great league (if it ever starts).

There are already some top notch clans signed up and ready to go at it again in the arena. Do you think your clan has what it takes? Well this is another chance to prove that. Go visit CQL site or visit them on ETG's irc channel #cql now and sign up!

Not sure if this is important or not but CQL is giving away a prize to the winning team "Free mouse and mouse pad to winning team". Their website is not too clear if they are only giving away 1 mouse and 1 mousepad to the winning team or is it 1 per member of the winning team. Will the winning team have to share the mouse? hehe j/k.

Ok getting serious again. I am glad to see another league to give Quake 3 more life. Competition is always good it keeps clans stay active and strive to get better. But most of all to have a place to play and have fun!

-IGL 2 on 2- Clan FITH forfeited since they didn't have enough players for the scheduled match. FITH 2 has challenged Silent Service. Time and day still pending.

-Some noticeable player movements-

1. ss-Hollywood seen playing more often =). Good to see you playing more bud!
2. ss-Ekildog been waiting and hoping for DSL. I know the feeling I had to wait about 1yr to be lpb again =). Hang in there
3. ss-Slug still won't join tourneys. We need you ss-Slug!!
4. ss-Claw back from Argentina and ready to frag once again.
5. Wolfenstein division seems to be growing. I see new members pop in everyday in our channel. Welcome to the team new guys!! (sirdark will insert names here hehe)

-CAL tdm- I just want to congratulate and thank ss-pureluck, ss-flopster, ss-donka and ss-iceolate for a well played match versus Samurai of Harlem (SOH). It was a very good match indeed and a very good demo to watch very well played guys!

Have you been elixired? It's been a great experience so far being with -ss-. I'm very honored to be in a clan with great members. Members with great attitudes and not to mention great skills (you know who you are). Lots of clans disbanding lately and Silent Service proves once again that it is not only skill what makes a clan solid =).

It's a new year for clan silent service. What will this year bring to -ss-. Will we see changes for the better or for worse?

-Will we see more games or activity?

Silent Service is very active indeed. Silent Service is currently on 3 Q3 leagues. CAL|cyberathlete amateur league, OGL|Online Gaming League, and IGL|Ilan gaming League. Last but not least, Silent Service also has a RTCW division now thanks to noc =).

Q3 2on2 - IGL: We were supposed to play clan FITH last night (1/12/02 @ 11:30pm EST) but hetfuck could not find any other member that wasn't afk. He requested to reschedule the match so game will be on till sometime Monday I believe.

Q3 TDM CAL: Next match will be vs Shoguns of Harlem. Some say for sure we will lose but hey it's another game for us and another chance to play as a team =). I know they are a very good team but hey it's always good to play a good team and be the underdogs. There's more to gain here and I'm sure it will be a learning experience.

Q3 TDM OGL: Bother sirdark about this as I have no clue what is up with OGL hehe. (editorialized by the power's of sirdark:)... OGL is alive and kicking. We went on "rest" for the holiday break and we are now reactivated in "competitive" mode. Our last match challenge we sorta like didn't respond in time and as such we received an autoforfeit. That sucked. (EOS sirdark).

RTCW Division: Please ask ss-noc for info if you are interested. You can also visit our RTCW channel at #ssrtcw @ irc.enterthegame.com . (editorialized by the power's of sirdark:. Check out ssrtcw in the CAL RTCW league.)

-Will we see our clan getting better as a team?

I think so. More of our members are starting to realize that being the highest fragger does not necessarily mean that you are the best player. It's a team effort guys! It doesn't matter if someone scores 1 frag and the other one scores 200 frags! The main goal is to win and that is all that should matter =). If you are looking for personal glory that's what 1 on 1s are for.

I am starting to notice that more of our members are starting to stick with strategy and not straying away to go after a frag.

I always believed that teamwork will always win the game regardless on how good the other opposing team is. I mean each member of this clan has their strength and weakness and if one can learn to filter out those weaknesses they will be a better player. Patience and discipline I think are the main keys to get your game better.

-Will we see less or more frustration?

I know that Quake 3 can be frustrating sometimes but there is no reason to be rude and disconnect from a game. I am sure if you look at it from your point of view you will not like it at all. Sometimes there are reasons for disconnections. Maybe connection went out, have to do things with family but just disconnecting and leaving the team hanging is not very nice hehe. Everyone can have a bad game but that is no reason to leave the game. I see people complaining that there are no games and that there are no games and yet when there's one they just leave =(. I understand that it can be aggravating sometimes when you are not winning or not hitting your shots but that's what makes the game addicting you want to get better =). Even Michael Jordan (i.e.: ss-saddam [edited by sirdark) has to miss once in a while =p.

-Will we see members quitting Quake 3.

I only have one thing to say about this. If our members let their frustration get the best out of them then we will definitely see players go. Who knows maybe to other games or just quit period. You just have to learn that Quake 3 is a game and that for most of us it is an escape. A game to play to release some stress after a long hard day at the office (at least for me it is). I think that if this game is getting to you. Stop putting pressure on yourself when you play. Don't worry about stats or net just hold the fire button down and blast away =).

-Credits and such

I want to give thanks to saddam and sirdark for keeping the clan alive. Noc for doing his share of work in the RTCW division. To all of our members that stayed strong and motivated and thanks to all of you for letting me join this great team =).

- January 7, 2002 -

I just want to take the opportunity to give the clan a little update on the Wolfenstein side of things.
As most of you are aware Silent Service now has a Return to Castle Wolfenstein division. Its nice to have a different game to play, as well as some new blood and friends to add to the already great ss- crew.

Welcome Maggot,Wer, 8DOT3, Diseased, JiggleMeat, and DasMick. These guys are a great group of people that are great to hang out with and also to Wolf with.

Ok... to some news.... Last night our team played its first game for CAL. CAL-Rtcw format is played
7vs7. Unfortunately for us it had to be played 6v7. The clan we played Allied Rangers were a great bunch of guys, (this was probably the smoothest match I have ever played in). There teamwork and there positions were awesome. Needless to say with a 6v7 and then a 5v7 (my cable went out and pc crashed) we lost our first match with a score of 5 rounds to 1. I defiantly would like to scrim with AR again, You guys are surely a class act, Thank you. It is a rarity to come across a bunch of people online such as yourselves.

Anyway I just wanted to take the time to welcome aboard our new guys. *ss-noc hands you all a beer and enjoy our team.

Happy New year. Feliz Ano Nuevo.

Here we go. The start of another year. The great things about new years is that it gives one a chance to like, start a new. I know I enjoy fresh starts. The problem right now is that I am unsure of what that new start will be or bring. Well, sok...we've been there before.

I am glad to be back. I was gone for a while vacationing in Arizona. I was visiting parents and family. From the word around the ss channel, this holiday break was apparently a very active one for us. Many clanmates were actually around for the break. They were around nightly and played several q3 tdm pickups. That's kewl.

Some additional news include the expansion of ss into RTCW (Return of Castle Wolfenstein). ss-Noccy has been quite active in establishing a division of gamers for RTCW. ss-Noccy will be the squad/division leader for SSRTCW. He reports the addition of some new SS RTCW members:

[23:56] <ss-noc> ss-maggot
[23:56] <ss-noc> ss-8DOT3
[23:56] <ss-noc> ss-DasMick
[23:56] <ss-noc> ss-Wer
[23:56] <ss-noc> ss-JiggleMeat
[23:56] <ss-noc> ss-Diseased
[23:56] <ss-noc> and of course me
[23:56] <ss-noc> ss-noc

That is great news. We fully support RTCW. All I need to do is go buy it so I can play on the net with it =) . I hope I am not that much of a n00b when I get there. If you care to try out, speak to ss-noc. SS has a channel:
