We be chilling. Sitting in the middle of our festive holiday break, many of us are playing long hours filled with frags, whines, and rail shots (in Quake IV). While some of us are polishing our gaming skills, others are spending quality time with family and friends while on school break. Both are good. We continue enjoying a team/squad that put family/friends and real life first. Then we can sit back and play our on-line games. Either way, frag on.

We want to welcome back to our team a player who was with us a few years ago. His name is Elixir . Some of you may remember him from our Q3 tdm days. back in 2001-2003. He was a valued member then, and is now. People like him is what makes our team great to be with than any other.

As far as recruits go, we currently have:  Machine, Xerxes/buckshot, Podge, & Anamorphic. They are currently undergoing our 1-month trial period. The players, respectively will conclude their trial period beginning early Jan 2006.

I also want to say good luck to Big_E. He has decided to "seek employment" elsewhere =) . We wish him well.

General News:

Late Friday Night TheCPL News---

TheCPL Quake IV 1on1 DOUBLE ELIMINATION brackets available here.

I spent a good part of today working from home while also spectating many a matches that were being "streamed" fed via GGL broadcast. I was very impressed with the professional appearance the coverage being given. The only complaint I have is the occasion LAGG and DELAY in feed of the broadcast. I know it's not my ISP, as I have lots of download capability.

The matches seemed to begin on time. Being in previous competitive arenas, the admins of the event are serious about timeliness. I wasn't shocked to see some forfeits being given to players who did NOT show up (even in time) for their scheduled matches. One notable forfeit appeared to have happen in the loser's bracket between Sweden Gopher vs. United States of America LoSt-CaUsE - LoSt-CaUsE advanced.

Team ss awaited the matches for Rev aka CPense, Mike Freeman aka *VA*, and Big_E. The following occurred:

(winner in Green)

1. United States of America [#12] Caleb Pense (Rev) vs ...

  • Upper Round 2 (WIN in 2)

United States of America [#12] Caleb Pense (Rev) vs #76] Michael Froese (moerser)

Score: (26-6 map 1, and 15-10 map 2)

  • Upper Round 3 (LOSS in 2)

United States of America [#12] Caleb Pense (Rev) vs Sweden [#21] Johan Quick (toxic)

Score: (1-32 map 1, and 10-25 map 2)

  • Lower Round 4 (WIN in 3)

United States of America  [#12] Caleb Pense (Rev) vs [#43] Riccardo Zanocchio (Vicious)

Score: (8-12 map 1, 17-15 map 2, and 15-8 map 3)

  • Lower Round 5 (Win in 2)

United States of America  [#12] Caleb Pense (Rev) vs [#60] Nicholas Borelli (jebus)

Score: (34-14 map 1, and 31-6 map 2)

  • Lower Round 6  (Win in 2)

United States of America  [#12] Caleb Pense (Rev) vs  [#11] Sean Price (Team3D-daler)

Score: (12-6 map 1, and 17-16 map 2)

Lower Round 7 Set for 10 am Saturday morning

United States of America  [#12] Caleb Pense (Rev) vs [#19] Zhibo Fan (Begrip ^Jibo^ r3d) aka Jibo

Caleb Pense (Rev) had advanced throughout the day. I think there is yet more to see of CPense. The winner of this match plays vs Sweden [#29] Alex Ingarv (fnatic.Ztrider)

2. United States of America [#78] Mike Freeman (*VA) vs

  • Loser Round 1 (WIN in 2)

vs [#114] Billy Harris (Cheech)

Score: (23-4 map 1, and 26-3 map 2)

  • Loser Round 2 (Loss in 3)

vs Canada [#16] Jake Valianes (Mojo)

Score: (15-24 map 1, 19-18 map 2, and 15-17 map 3)

If its any consolation, the match VA had vs Mojo was tougher for Mojo than was his very next Loser Round 3 match. There Mojo beat [seed #48] Davey Baciocco (Lust) (13-9;39-3)

In other words, VA gave Mojo a seemingly tougher fight while seeded #78. VA should have been seeded better. Its all about the seed.

Mike Freeman (*VA) drops from the lower bracket to finish his road in competition this week. A job well done.

3.  United States of America [#98] Eric Flores (Big_E) vs [#95] Kasem Farm (Chickenwing-)

Score: (13-21 map 1, and 11-21 map 2)

Eric Flores (Big_E) gave it a good run. I am not certain if this is Big_E's first LAN competition. I hope to see about getting personal notes drafted and posted on this web site later. GGs man.

General News:

Updated Late Night TheCPL News---

TheCPL Quake IV DOUBLE ELIMINATION match brackets schedule is available.

The matches actually got started later than expected. This is not new. It's very usual for delays in matches in competition. Instead of 3 pm for CPense, he began at 6 pm CST. Here are the results as posted on the brackets page. I have no news at the moment what maps were played:

(winner in Green)

1. United States of America [#12] Caleb Pense (Rev) vs [#117] Andreas Mair-benning (webBy)

Score: (36-0 map 1, and 41-5 map 2)

2. United States of America [#78] Mike Freeman (*VA) vs [#50] AlejandroGonzalez(x6elpajuo)

Score: (7-24 map 1, and 3-24 map 2)

3.  United States of America [#98] Eric Flores (Big_E) vs [#31] Mark Larsen (wombat)

Score: (7-31 map 1, and 24-25 map 2)

So in summary:

Caleb Pense (Rev) advanced to the next round of the winner's bracket. He is scheduled to play his next match on Friday morning, December 16, 2005 @ 11:30 am CST. This is vs [#76] Michael Froese (moerser). It appears as this player had a BYE because of his previous win score of 1-0, 1-0. My guess is CPense will win this next match.

Mike Freeman (*VA) drops to the lower bracket. He is scheduled to play his next match on Friday morning, December 16, 2005 @ 10:00 am CST. This is vs [#114] Billy Harris (Cheech). Cheech lost to [#15] Dan Marshall (Kuula) with scores of (40-0;20-2). My "gut feel" is that VA should WIN his next round.

Eric Flores (Big_E) drops to the lower bracket. He is scheduled to play his next match on Friday morning, December 16, 2005 @ 10:00 am CST. This is vs [#95] Kasem Farm (Chickenwing-). Chickenwing- was suppose to play vs [#34] Matt Osborn (Jabb0r) but the scores show a (0-1) He either did not show up to play or stopped playing awarding a simple 1-0 win to his opponent. Either or, I give this upcoming match to Big_E as we believe he was simply seeded vs a top opponent, namely Wombat.

...side note:

Biggest blow out match was as follows:

[#17] James Harding (dignitas/TooGoood) vs [#112] Johnny Roddy ii (JRod)

Scores: (79-0 ; 64-1) ouch

Main source of dialogue: Team SS Forum

We continue forging ahead with our Quake IV squad in Team Death Match (TDM). These past few weeks have been up and down for us as many of our active players are busy finishing their school semester, work, or other personal dealings.

Fact is, we are pushing ahead. Onward and upward. Thanks to all for their patience.

ss-Cpense, ss-Big_E and ss-VA are attending TheCPL winter event. They will be competing in the QuakeIV 1on1 tournaments. We salute them and wish them all the best.

TheCPL winter event has begun as many players arrived Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005 to register and prepare for their matches. Many are practicing, while others walk around getting familiar with the arena many of them hope to be in consecutively over the next 4 days. Apparently, Esreality web site has already announced the Quake IV 1on1 tournament seedings. As stated above, here are our Team members names and seed:

  1. 12. United States of America Caleb Pense (Rev) aka CPense

  2. 79. United States of America Mike Freeman (*VA)

  3. 98. United States of America Eric Flores (Big_E)

We want them to know we will be rooting for them and I am sure they will be able to hear our screams from all parts of this land! Good Luck fellas.

Leagues: Team SS Forum League Page

We are actively competing in two leagues. GGL and CAL leagues are underway now into its first two weeks. Check out our Match Stats page here. In short, we are in GGL's invite division. This is the "creme of the crop" teams competing in North America. We realize we are matching with the best out there. We welcome it and plan to give it our best. The CAL league is much wide spread. Some teams found on CAL's league are also found on GGL's league. However, there is a difference in the intensity of teams competing. Clearly, GGL's prize winnings distinguish it:

  • 1st. $12,500 Cash

  • 2nd. $6,250 Cash

  • 3rd. $3,750 Cash

  • 4th. $2,500 Cash

Additions:

We want to welcome ss-VA & ss-Cpense to Team ss. They also just completed their 1-month trial with us. Solid additions have these gents proven to be. ss-Big_E will be welcome into Team ss as soon as he returns from TheCPL event.

We look forward to moving ahead with trials on remaining recruit: Xerxes.

General News:

(IRC Networks: #silent_service on EnterTheGame.com)

As a testament to Team Silent Service is back, we are actively recruiting on a select basis. There really is no mystery here. Team ss wants to prepare for competitive gaming and to do that well, it must be looking for players that meet our mutual needs. Skill and maturity. Both are needed. If interested, stop in and speak to one of our team members for more information. If you are a team hopper, mouth off, or just overall a sob don't bother wasting time. We are serious enough to respect your time, please don't waste ours.

Team ss is reviewing its options in selecting at least 1, if not 2, Q4 servers. We expect them to be centrally located in the USA.

Our  Team SS Forum is active once again and are having lively discussions. A special "shout out" to ss-yudash who put together a Q4 TDM timer. It not a new tool but certainly one greatly appreciated. Here is the original write up @ cached.net. Here is the forum link.

We are happy to announce of two recruits under consideration/review at the moment. They are Oblivion911 and aimology.

General News:

(IRC Networks: #silent_service on EnterTheGame.com)

There have been some changes since we last wrote up a post. I'll be brief and to the point:

  • SS CS 1.6 died about mid year - June 2005. We will NOT be sponsoring or creating another CS squad.

  • SS was pretty much in idle mode for the majority of the summer 2005. Several members too vacations, and much needed break from on-line gaming.

  • SS has a fully dedicated core group of mature players. We are proud to be a Gaming team with over 9+ years since inception.

  • SS has been waiting for and has now been reactivated for Quake IV.

Team Silent Service is back.

We are ready to compete as individuals and as a team. We are preparing ourselves to be ready for all aspects of this game. We are proud to have FULL use of a Voice Chat TeamSpeak server. We are also being offered a Ventrillo server. We are also looking into getting 1, if not 2, Quake IV servers. We are planning to centrally localize them in the Midwest USA. As an idea, one server in Chicago or nearby, and the other in DFW or Houston. More on this later.

If you believe we can improve the Main Team SS web page, please feel free to comment on it in our Team SS Forum.

Additions:

None at the moment. We are not actively recruiting however we are always keeping our options open to quality players committed to good solid sportsmanship and team ss dedication. If you are a team/clan hopper, don't even bother with us.

General News:

(IRC Networks: #silent_service on EnterTheGame.com)

Stepping away from the gaming scene for a while has allowed me to relearn what life is really about. During the past few years, many of us have dedicated our off-time, our free-time, and some have given even more time to a hobby we enjoy very much. This is on-line gaming. I have come to know people who are happily married, who are in college, or are working on a job/career. On-line gaming allows people to explore a virtual world that is filled with fun. However, it can also have bad consequences. Like all things in life, there is good and bad in everything. At times, the choices we make can impact the more important things in our lives.

Some of the people I met over the last 3-7 years have struggled in maintaining a balance between the world of fun and the world of reality. Their marriage have faltered, grades have fallen, and some have lost their jobs. Hence the need to step away and test for yourself if the fun you are having in on-line gaming has become an obsession. If it has, you could be heading toward serious trouble. Take a step back, ask yourself seriously how much time you spend on gaming (on-line or otherwise). Is it affecting those around you who love you? Do you have friends outside of the IRC world? How else do you spend your time? If there is little in your real world you prefer doing over the virtual world, you may need to back away and "de-tox" yourself from this scene.

The only reason I bring this up is to encourage you to "live in balance." Too much of a good thing, can be bad. This is one of the reasons I strongly believe Team Silent Service has lasted as long as it has. It is not because we are the BEST of the BEST. Wes simply are the best at who we are. We are gamers with lives inside and outside this gaming scene. We are balanced. We enjoy gaming, but we are also well grounded in our lives. Take a look at yourself and see where you sit.

Current League(s):

[ CS 1.6, Quake3 GGL 2on2 Americup, AA ]

Team ss has agreed to take a spot in the GGL-Q3 2on2 tourney. Team Dark Side left the league in the 1st week of the event. This week was a trial period not intended to count toward points or seeding. We received notice from GGL-DonKing asking us to join and play. Glad to see air, zoltar, and donka team it to game. Good Luck fellas.

After several months, spike has taken up the charge to squad lead a division of Team ss for Counter Strike 1.6. He has recruited players having met ss standards, and are now actively gaming in leagues. More information on our Awesome CS 1.6 squad can be read at our CS Web Link. Our current team includes: daedalus, kTh, bt', Blitz, rHah, excuSe, SabeZ, and kiNix.

If you believe we can improve the Main Team SS web page, please feel free to comment on it in our Team SS Forum.

Additions:

We want to welcome theta and Purgatory to our team.
