Well. Here we are again at the end of another year. Much has happened since we opened shop over 2 years ago. Very proud of the road we have travelled. Some rocky, some smooth. Yet, at the end of this year, we can say we (those remaining) are here. SS is not for everyone, this has shown itself to be so...but we are a loyal and good spirited group of players. Young, old, fat, thin, LEET, Not so leet (SD), but its been fun. 1999 brings a whole new face to us again as we AWAIT for the arrival of QUAKE 3. That will change the face of the on line gaming world as once did QUAKE itself. Right now, ss is qwdm and q2radm. However, it is very likely that we may ALL progress/advance from two divisions into ONE with Quake 3. Dont know yet, more to come on that.

I want to personally thank all ss who have endured the THICK and THIN of this year with us. I appreciate it cuz this "thing" is not about me or you, but about us! My personal thanks to the NEW Quake 2 division that was formed this YEAR and is ROCKEN in Toruneys such as OGL and others. Way to frag em!!! As always, this time of the year is slow and many ppl are away on break/holiday. Here's to another rocken year and that we all remain kewl, safe and rock together.

In our 12/03/98 TEQ match, [ss] was beat by Clan Phorce, 2 - 1. GG fellas. The 1998 Fall TEQ season is over. Over all, we did well. The season started as TNQL and then changed to TEQ. From all accounts, TEQ should begin again come January 1999. We will be active there also.

On another note, Paradox[ss] has been removed from the clan. Gluck to you dood.

Our 12/03/98 TEQ match is against Clan Phorce. From all accounts, TEQ fall season is coming to a close this week. It is expected to start again in January 1999. More to come on that later. Thursday nite quake has undergone some changes in management and upkeep. Hope we see an improvement in the timeliness of news, match reporting and other things come next season. Who knows...maybe we can start something up for Thursday nite.

I am please to see an old member return. His name is DawgBear[ss] (qwdm). He left some time ago and seem the light with his new ADSL connection. Must be nice =). Other issues include reminding everyone that the holiday season is here once again and some ppl will be off traveling on vacation, home, etc. As a result, I suspect as it has occurred over the last two years, things will be SLOW around here. Just hang in there and rock on. We are and will remain an active clan. One last item, I do plan on doing a face lift to the [ss] web page. Hopefully I can structure it to reflect more the fact that we are a clan in qw dm, q2 ra dm, and soon (maybe) Half Life DM. More on this later.

Well the good news was that we were ready to play our TEQ match. The bad news comes in two modes. One, we only found out TODAY that we were to play Clan Killer Inc for the TEQ match. Two, Killer Inc did not play...said they wanted to forfeit the match. So.....In our 11/19/98 TEQ match, [ss] wins (??) by forfeit of Clan Killer Inc. Good NONE Game fellas. The next TEQ match is to be set for ??? (Not Thanksgiving). More to come on this later.

Our 11/05/98 TEQ match was against Clan IM. [ss] was beat by Clan IM, 2 - 0. GG fellas. Our next TEQ match is Nov. 12, 1998.

Since Air^Octive[ss] (qwdm) has been seen roaming the net recently and has begun playing again, I am reinstating him as active. I presume this means that his cable connection performance has improved, if not stabilized. Also, some additional news includes the reinstatement of [ss] Q2 player Brack[ss]Q2. "He once was lost but now he is found." Welcome back d00d.

In our 10/29/98 TEQ match, [ss] beat Clan Zug, 2 - 1. GG fellas. By far, one of the most exciting matches we've had in a long time. The tourney match was the best 2 out of 3 matches wins. We have added our newest and probably our last ss qw dm (LPB) member. His name is SlipMat[ss]. We are pleased to see him on the squad and from what we've seen, he will be contributing soon. What is so kewl, he also has a great attitude to boot. Some name changes have come about. Brain[ss] is now known as Flash[ss]. Blaze[ss] is now known as The-Rock[ss]. Don't forget, the next TEQ match is set for 10/15/98.

Welps, a long time ago a friend told me "worry about the things you can control, not the things you can't." Sadly enough, we had two good friends drop [ss]. Noid and NoidJr have left for other gaming pastures. As Noid puts it, "[17:47] I jsut am getting sick of Quake, interested in other games more than Quake...and would rather leave than get mad every day cause thats no fun." Good Luck man, your welcome around here d00d. NoidJr dropped cuz...well....in his words, there can be no NOIDjr without a NOID...oh well.

Rumor has it that Blaze[ss] was spotted in a hallway on QW level DM3. If this is so, tell em Im comin after him. Welcome back man! More than likely, we will be fielding our LPBs for the TEQ league. More to come.

In the 9/24/98 TEQ match, we were scheduled to played Clan AMP. Clan AMP was a NO show. I believe that the rulez state that they forfeit the match, so guess we get a win. The next TEQ match is set for 10/1/98 and we don't yet know who we play. ALL [ss] QW DM be here plz.

We are still recruiting ONLY 2 more solid and loyal QW DM LPBs. If you are a LPB and think you got the stuff, stop by our IRC channel, and lets do it.

We have a two new [ss] QW DM members added to the LPB squad named Brain[ss] and Air^Octive[ss]. Great to have them on board. We look forward to their contribution to the clan. Newsflash, Blaze[ss] is suppose to return this weekend. Lets just wait and see if he shows.

The next TNQL match is set for 9/24/98 and we play clan AMP. ALL [ss] QW DM be here plz. We are still attempting to recruit solid and loyal QW DM LPBs. TNQL has ENDED, Closed up shop. etc. So, Grunt from clan PB has started up a new but same tourney called TEQ (thursday evening quake) and they are at TEQ . Check em out there.

We have a new LPB recruit called Brain. Look forward to seeing if he has the "stuff."

In the 9/10/98 TNQL match, we played Clan Red Abyss [ra]. [ra] won 134 to 107. GG fellas. Clan [ra] is an allie of [ss] so this match was kewl. The next TNQL match is set for 9/17/98 and we play Clan ESAD.

In the 9/4/98 TNQL match, we played Clan A3D. [ss] won 244 to 72 (124 to 30, 120 to 42). GG fellas. The next TNQL match is set for 9/10/98 and we will find out who we play. More to come shortly. Q2 news. We welcome to our Quake2 ranks the unsightly sight of Krater[ss]Q2, a fine addition to our already continent class team. We also are in the process of trialing Slagathor, otherwise known as Slag, young in Quake years but stout of heart (we hope). We all hope that he will pass the torturous test of trying to withstand our presence without throwing up :).

Aug 28 1998

Q2 news. On Monday the 24 Silent Service (SS) battled Seventh Son (77) to a 5v5 best of 3 match in RA2. We played on 77's server with pretty equal pings all around. The first match was all SS with us up 4-2 when the time ran out on that map. The second round was closer. We were down 1-3 but we pulled together nicely and ended up winning 5-4, and thus the game 2-0.

Some people left, but enough of us stuck around after and played another match for fun that 77 won 5-4. Future matches with 77 should certainly be considered as a good time was had by all.

Other things of note: Jadell[ss]Q2 is almost done with our custom Q2 skin. All hail Jadell, clother of the wicked :).

In the 8/20/98 TNQL match, we played Clan XP. [ss] wins 2 - 0. GG fellas. XP was an all LPB clan.

In the 8/27/98 TNQL match, we were scheduled to play Clan GQ2. Clan GQ has two foursome groups in TNQL. Their more refined players are in GQ. Based on previous pics from their matches, it appears that they used some of their players from GQ1 and they won 2 to 0. GG fellas. The next TNQL match is set for 9/04/98 and we will find out who we play. More to come shortly.

Q2 news. The following news comes from Clan Silent Service's Q2 division. Proud of them and I expect more news from them as time progresses.

We're in the RA2 4v4 tourney. Check out: RA2 4on4 Tourney Link for the details.

We've had 2 semi-official matches. The first with Sh|n was subpar on our part. Partly because we played on a dm2 level that's not a normal RA level, and second because our ping average was 400 and there's was 150 (2 lpb). But it was a good starter and Sh|n looks like a good clan to associate with.

Our next match against ICE was laughable. They were late to show, had members ducking in and out, and only won one round out of 30. The most interesting thing that happened is that Pouch[Sh|n] showed up toward the end and invited us to play them again, partially, I feel, because they felt they could beat us and wanted some more wins. We decided to scrum them, but couldn't hook up with them. Oh well.

Everyone knows how tough it is nowadays to find/recruit solid and loyal (single clan) QW DM players. Well the Quake gods continue to smile upon us. We are proud to have NoidJr[ss] & Verminaard[ss] join the ranks of [ss]. Both of these gents have been around the net for quite a long time and share their great attitudes and solid skillz with us. Welcome men! Expect to see them around in active duty! I also know the September is only a few weeks away and we will have returning from summer break several of our inactive players....including Blaze[ss], Octane[ss], and Booger[ss] . Due to inactivity, ArcAngel[ss] & Quatro[ss] are placed on the inactive list, however remain [ss].

In the 8/13/98 TNQL match, we played Clan DNA. DNA wins 2 to 0. GG fellas. Nite was so bad that even Anti[ss] was lagged as an HPB for the 1st time ever. Alas, another day. The next TNQL match is set for 8/20/98 and we will find out who we play. More to come shortly.

In the 8/6/98 TNQL match, we played Clan A3D. [ss] wins 280 to 36. GG fellas. Way to run the level. We missed Slug[ss]. He was scheduled to play but got DOG sick with a 105 Deg fever and nasal infection (or so he says). Get better dood, cuz Im gonna rock yr world when you get back. The next TNQL match is set for 8/13/98 and we will find out who we play. More to come shortly.

In the 7/30/98 TNQL match, we played Clan :X. [ss] lost the match under much suspicion. GG fellas. There seemed to be some players in there that hmmmm... NM. Not worth the effort. Again GG gents. The next TNQL match is set for 8/6/98 and we will find out who we play. More to come shortly.

I am Happy to report that [ss]'s Quake 2 Division [ [ss]Q2 ] had its first meeting tonight. We are proud of their recent building of that division and have begun scrimmaging. My hats off to them. The group currently includes (in no specific order Emtea[ss]Q2, Infin[ss]Q2, Brack[ss]Q2, Jadell[ss]Q2, ST[ss]Q2, and Mojo[ss]Q2. Gluck and rockem hard.

I cannot wait for summer to end in a way. We need to regroup and get the clan back in some practice schedule. Hope to do this soon. This is especially true when our [ss] members come back from summer break. MORE news: We heard that clan crossbones broke up. More to come as we hear it.

In the 7/23/98 TNQL match, we played Clan ESAD. [ss] won the match --> 174 - 78 GG fellas. SittingBear[ss] couldn't make this match as his T1 is down for the last two days (sigh)-- the whoas of a LPB heheh. Hurry back SB. The next TNQL match is set for 7/30/98 and we will find out who we play. More to come shortly.

In the 7/16/98 TNQL match, we played Clan Imperium (IMP). The match was a tie, GG fellas. This is a first for us. Never had a tie before. Im sure we will meet them again soon.

News: I'm back. Clan [ss] survived without me. I knew they could, heheh. Had a great time in Florida. Too hot tho for this time of the year. Clan [ss] has changed slightly. We are now establishing dedicated players to either Q1 QW DM or Q2 DM. This way each division can grow without having to switch back and forth. Soul-Tayqr[ss] & Brack[ss] are heading the Q2 division. They ST will lead [ss]-q2 into battle with Brack at his side. They will/are recruiting - so if you are interested, stop by our channel ----> on ri.gamesnet.net on #silent_service.

In the 7/09/98 TNQL match, we played Clan Red Abyss. [ss] won the match --> 170 - 110 GG fellas. Clan RA is really a solid clan and are our allies. We wub you gents. More to come next week.

We can tell summer is around. Not too much happening. There certainly seems to be Severe lagg everywhere on the net. Several [ss] members are severely imparied in playing cuz of it. We had a week of recruiting going on and we are proud to add three new players to our ranks. They are: Snake-[ss], Anti-[ss], & SaltyDog-[ss]. Welcome to a clan that values sportsmanship and players with good attitudes.

BTW, has anyone seen or heard from the ever elusive and ever NON present Booger-[ss]. If someone evens smells him in the area, please let me know. He was to active come summer time. BTW, talking about summer time, I will be gone for two solid weeks in July to Florida with da familia. Fun time.

In the 6/25/98 TNQL match, Clan MB beat [ss]. GG fellas (all lpbs essentially). The next TNQL match is set for 7/2/98 and it is against Clan A3D.

Runamuk[ss] has decided to go inactive and leave [ss]. He is a very busy guy with family and job duties pulling at him from all sides. He is welcomed at #silent_service whenever he wants. We will miss ya dood; hope to see ya around sometime. KillahKid[ss] has decided to go Inactive for a while. I know the feeling KK, come back soon.

In the 6/18/98 TNQL match, [ss] beat Clan ESAD 184-74. GG fellas. The next TNQL match is set for 6/25/98 and it is against Clan Muppet Babies. More to come then.

Great news...we welcome back from INACTIVE status CigarMan[ss]. He was lost BUT now he's found his way back! Good to have you back man.

In TNQL, [ss] lost to Clan GQ. GG fellas. However, we are still wondering about that one player for them....hmmmmm... HeHeHe. This week we are scheduled to play Clan ESAD. More to come on that round later this week.

Not too much happening right now. [ss] continues in TNQL and this past week we were scheduled to play Clan Cyc. They were a "No Show." So they forfeit the match. This coming week we play Clan GQ. All [ss] check in with SittingBear[ss] or me to determine game plan. More later...

Summer is here and it remains a challenge to stay indoors. I expect the clan activity to slow down a bit. But, I don't expect it to die altogether. We remain active in TNQL and more to come on other tourneys. My connection using 56k Flex remains BAD. I continue to have Packet Loss of data and major lagg. I thought it would end quickly. But, of course that was at the end of March 1998. Nothing yet. For now, I connect using my old reliable USR 28.8k modem. (sigh) =(

For those of you that DO NOT already know, Clan [ss] has merged IRC chat channels with Clan Red Abyss [ra]. This has happened to bring our two allied clans together a bit more. We can NOW jointly be found on ri.gamesnet.net @ channel #silent_abyss . #silent_service and #ss remain in use for Clan [ss] members only.

It has been a while since I last updated the page. Lots of things have happened since. I'd like to welcome our newest member to Silent Service [ss]. He displays a solid rocken ability as well as having a good attitude. The newbie is KarmA[ss]. I'm still hoping to see Booger[ss] come around! =) Hope all is well with him. I miss his rocken.

There is some word around the clan of joining MNQL??!!! More to come on this later...

Some additional changes within Clan [ss] include CigarMan[ss] going INACTIVE. We hope to have him back sometime, but if not adios and come around to visit! Also, Proffessor[ss] left. Strange departure. He left as quickly as he came. Gluck to you man.

Some additional news worth reporting is that Clan [ss] remains active in TNQL - Thursday Night Quake League. We are have fun and rocken too. I am glad that others within [ss] have picked up the leadership role in running it within the clan. Thanks to SittingBear[ss] & Stone[ss] for keeping our participation up to snuff!.

It's been a while since the last update. Thing is the activities have been a little stale. However, things are changing and for the better. We have added a few new members that seem to display the quality and characteristics of rocken players in skill and even better in attitude. We like to welcome Proffessor[ss] and runamuk[ss] as the newest members. Additionally, I have not forgotten to mention that we welcome back Killah-kidd[ss] to the clan. He left us some time ago and found his way back. Glad to have you back man! With the building of the Clan to new levels, we are also beginning to work on team play and improve. We want to continue to be competitive in QW DM, but also maintain a loyal group come hell or high water. I think we have a solid base now! (Here's praying). Oh one other thing, due to Octane[ss] active school studies he is now inactive. He remains a member, but will not be called upon for matchin...only time will tell. Booger[ss] is NOT dead --- He lives....he'll be back early MAY 1998 in full force...Can't wait to see him on line routinely again!

For further game play experience, several members have also joined and are active in tourneys including Clan RA's 2on2 tourney and most recently the widely known TNQL - Thursday Night Quake League. Here's to rocken da house.

There have been some changes at SS. PimpDragon [ss] has decided to leave SS and pursue his skillz elsewhere. Although we are sad to see him go, LIFE GOES ON. ArcAngel [ss] continues moving SS in the Q2 CTF / DM direction. He is actively recruiting players for Q2 CTF/DM. If you are interested, stop by our chat channel @ RI.GAMESNET.NET and its #silent_service. I'm still waiting for the SS CLANRING and CTF servers for Q1 and Q2. Be on the look out for them.

For the time being, we continue to realize that it takes a special breed of a person to COMMIT and PLAY quake consistently enough where they are around to play, practice, scrimmage, and match. With this in mind, SS continues to make roster changes reflecting players dedicated to playing and removing those that are not. Rumor has it that DIESEL [ss] has been spotted mountain climbing in the Himalayas.. We hope he makes his way back soon. Insult [ss] has gone INACTIVE. Well see if he manages to come back. We will be expanding/dedicating SS into divisions. This is for Q2 ctf/dm as was as Quake DM QW. More to come.

SS continues to work on developing strong MATCH skills. We've been scrimmaging most nights and welcome it from other clans. Thanks to PimpDragon [ss] for working and creating a GREAT DM3 guide. ALL SS know what this is about. U rock DOOD. ArcAngel [ss] is also moving SS in the Q2 CTF / DM direction nicely. We should also have our SS CLANRING and CTF servers for Q1 and Q2 up soon. Be on the look out for them.

Big news to report. Blues News Web Sight reports the following, " John Carmack Announces Quake III. In another surprise announcement, John Carmack just made a .plan update that reveals a change in plans over at id. Say so long to the id Quake II mission pack, and say hello to... Quake III!" That is big news. More to come on this over the next few days, weeks, months - I'm Sure.

I hope all SS members that wanted to play in Clan SS's Q2 CTF/DM division have already informed ArcAngel [ss] via icq or email. Today is the deadline.

SittingBear [ss] and PimpDragon [ss] are in the DUO TOURNEY (2on2). GLuck dudes.

So far, PimpDragon [ss], Insult [ss], and Sir Dark [ss] have signed up for the NV sponsored FACE OFF (1on1) event. Gonna be fun!

There is a lot of excitement in the air as Clan SS is about to begin/formalize its Q2 Division. All current SS members interested in joining this division need to contact (Email):ArcAngel [ss] for signups. After that, formal outside recruitment will begin. Let the bloodshed begin.

There are two TOURNEYS that have opened for 1on1 matches. They should be real good. One is Necessary Violence's FACE OFF. The other Tourney is IDES OF MARCH TOURNEY. Several SS members have joined both Tourneys. Good Luck SS and ROCKem Hard.

Over the weekend, Clan SS played Clan Crossbones in a match. There was some mis communication about the agreed maps. That is, there was no clarification in advance as to the maps to be played. For the most part, most clans play DM3 as the standard DM map. That was the 1st map chosen (apparently our choice). We tip our hats to Clan Crossbones as they managed to beat us by two frags. The match was to be two maps and the best total frags between the two maps wins. Well, using a "loop hole" in our communication, Clan Crossbones decided they wanted to play a E3M2 (uh huh that's right, I bet most of you cannot even tell me the name of that map unless you've played it recently in a tourney or something.) Well, at first, we were hesitant because it is a map not ordinarily played for DM. Further, Clan Crossbones had the edge as they've played that map in some tourney. Again, we decided to honor the talk and in the spirit of fairness, we played. Needless to say, I do understand why it is NOT a standard DM map on most widely held Tourneys. Its a BIG campers map! :> What we learned from all this is that proper communication ahead of time helps to correct any problems during gameplay. I doubt we've seen the last of Clan Crossbones. GG fellas. I want to also thank IchiJoe(:X) who kept the talk between maps at a gentlemen's level. Til next match...

We finally managed to get some clan matches set up when everyone falls apart, partly any ways. Clan 6$A has disbanded. Sorry to hear that - they were a good group of fellas. Not sure why?! As a result, there was not clan war with them tonight. We were also asked to move the match with Clan Crossbones to Sunday night. I hope all goes well. ALL SS REPORT TO SS CHAT CHANNEL NO LATER THAN 9:30 PM EST SUNDAY NIGHT 2/29/98. Cyas there.

The 1on1Tourney has moved along since my last entry. I lost my match on DM6 to Omega (RA), GG dood. Also, SittingBear [ss] lost his match to DVC-Phobia, GG there too man. We had fun in the tourney. Even tho no SS will take the prize, we had a learning experience from it. I hear there is news of a Clan RA sponsored 2on2 TOURNEY in the works. More to come on this soon.

SS has undergone some changes recently. Adding of new members while remembering the old. Alas, change is inevitable. This will be a learning time for us as we are now about 1 yr and 2 months old. New faces, new frags....hehe the killin starts now.

We have two matches scheduled this weekend (Saturday, February 28, 1998) with Clan 6$A and Clan Crossbones. Please make sure all SSs that can make it get back to me before Wednesday night 2/25/98 12 midnight. Otherwise, no play!

Over the weekend SS matched with Clan Fearfactor. A good group of guys who are players and not whiners. What a nice change. In the end, fun is what its all about. Of course, as a player once said, "its more fun when I win!"

SS continues to advance in the Clan Red Abyss 1on1 Tourney.. Hats off to Havoc (RA) for a smooth and uneventful tourney so far. Nice work man. SS players advancing include SittingBear [ss] and Sir Dark [ss]. This, however, comes at a loss to two other SS's including Insult [ss] and Blaze [ss]. For some reason, the set ups of the matches "pegged" several SS's against each other early in the rounds. Kinda sucks. Oh well, perhaps we can offer suggestions to RA in the next tourney to prevent such happenings, not only for SS but for all players.

More matches coming up soon. We want to get back into some rhythm.
